Confused with yourself for loving GT5?

Generally speaking all the racing games have their niche category. For me, GT5 fills the Car Collecting and Simulation Based Racing. For an arcade racing experience I use Burnout, for Circuit Racing I use Shift and for Drifting it comes back to Grid.

I've yet to find a cars based game that fills all the disciplines well, and I'll be pleasantly shocked when one finally gets to market.

You and I are on the same page.

You are right, Shift2 is a RACING SIM game, not a driving one. I agree.

Ok, you are calling guys that play sim games on Inside Sim Racing "professionals"? Proessional what? They review games like everyone else so I guess professional reviewers? Also the "proffesionals" gave Shift2 a score of 84/100 and GT5 83/100, if the scores are important to you. "Professionals" say that S2 is better than GT5.

I really dont want to go down the S2 vs GT5. I like both games. I like all the games in my racing library for different reasons. The point I was making to YOU personally, is dont downtalk something you DONT know about. I can at least make a fair judgment considering I own and play the games I talk about, unlike other people.

I play GT5 for B Spec, because I cant stand the fact the cockpits are bad, or non-existant in a so called driving sim game, and cars cant be personalized (i.e. why have plates that tell you what car it is? realllly?). But thats MY reason. So I get out of GT5 my enjoyment of car collecting, and directing drivers. When I want to race and feel some speed, I pop in Shift2. When I want to rally Dirt2-3 makes the grade.

Or I could just be close minded, own 1 race game, and talk crap about all others because...well I dont want something to be better in anyway to my beloved GT5. Like you do.

Point is, if your going to downtalk something at LEAST give the game a shot, before you talk about stuff you dont even know.

I don't want to go in depth too. But Inside sim Racing haven't got to the point where they will give gt5 a final score in part 2 of their review. Anyway I have played Shift 2, and like before I am happy to say that gt5 is better, but it's my opinion so just forget this stupid argument. 👍

Why does this always have to revert back to "my one's bigger/better than your's"? It gets very repetitive and lacks any feeling or meaning. Comments "i like GT5 because it has better graphics" or "Forza sucks because it's engine is lame", mean nothing in context. Worst of all... "I hate GT5 because it only has 200 premium cars!" - wtf!!! As i said in a previous post, it would be worth every penny had it only one car and one track! Give me any decent car and Nurburgring and a couple of hours and Im a happy man!

The OP was rightly questioning WHY he loved the game despite it's flaws. It's an interesting topic. And an astonishing indictment as to the inherent strength of the driving experience and tweakability of the cars themselves that so many of us are so hopelessly addicted (now for nearly a year) despite the lack of offline "gameplay" and poor design.

The original post was directed at GT5 itself & NOT a comparison with other titles. The interesting comment applies to a personal love of the game overcoming it's shortcomings in a very significant way. It should be a celebration of all that is right about the game!

Thinking about it, it's the subtle things which I am addicted to; eg. the squeal of the tyres when I break into a drift and am able to control it. That feeling of a perfect over-take round a corner whilst on a drift is bliss :-)

The joy of taking a crappy, and dull, stock car and tuning it slowly up to something magically entertaining over an evening.

Learning to drive, really drive, in this game without the nannies, is a constant challenge and just pure addiction.

Im sure you can do this with other games too , but Im playing GT5 and "Im Lovin' It".

GT5, for me is about the "toy" which is behind the game. It's a super "toy" not a game. It's has more akin to the old slot car racing setups we used to have as kids. How many of us used to spend days tweaking a setup around our bedrooms and then running time trials over 100's of laps with friends round OR alone? GT5 is similar but soooo much more fun.

THe car you should be ranting about is the Sirion/Storia (besides the X4). The Odyssey is actually a pretty fun van. But that's just my opinion.

What's wrong with the Sirion and Storia? I love my Sirion's and Storia's I wish there were Hijets and Charades to play with too

Yeah i know that feeling too. If i think about how many hours i've already driven...oh boy...i don't think i can say a realistic number. I never thought that i would be able to win all Licenses...but now i did.

I never thought i would win the last expert seasonal...but again i did. After finding the right setup for the wrx i was really BUFFED the first time since november last year, about how dramatically proper fine-tuning can change the handling!

At the moment i don't know a racing game that awakes in me this strong will of beating the challenges. I mean for the licenses you get nothing! But its the challenge! I can't remember having the same in forza 3 e.g.

Ok of course there was a time where i didn't play it but thats because the Seasonal events got boring and grinding just sucked. Now they're again on the way UP! Taking the Enzo the first time today i could see again how different the cars behave.


And about the P/S issue: Why are those bazillion dupplicates of Mazda etc. here? I think its JUST THAT SIMPLE: They allready got most of the cars from GT4 right...so they've allready put in some big work into them many years ago.

If we would only have the Premium Cars nobody would complain. But you have to see the standards really like a Bonus. If they would have said "we don't implement them", then it would have been the same as saying you throw away your own hard work! - I hope you understand what i want to say. The cars are here, they are good to drive! So why put them away? OF COURSE they could have AT LEAST updated the textures...absolutely no doubt in that!

I'm sure in GT6 it won't be different. There will be again 1000+ cars but imo they will update the S to P

Ive raced with knuckles since the begining of gt5, and myself and most other guys we race with feel exactly the same way, dont get me wrong GT5 is awesome, i absolutly love it, but that love comes from the fact that the physics are the best of any race game ive played, and the learning curve of GT5 is great, most games i like i end up playing till i absolutly master them then i stop (not sure why, i just enjoy the learning process i guess) and then ill find another game thats hard to master. Well in GT5 the learning curve is huge and 99.9% of all players who think they are the greatest GT5 drivers havent actually mastered it at all, theres always someone quicker, these two things are what keeps me coming back for more. but haveing said all this you have stupid things constantly eating away at you in the back of your mind, like no multiple setups, no mid race saves, quali laps have no penalties, room hosts cant select 'GT 500 only' cars for instance , the physics are sim but the draft is massively arcade, goddam it lots of people still have problems racing with certain people due to disconnects, I have a 50mg fibre optic connection, Knuckles has a 100mg and yet voice audio still cuts out sometimes yet neither of us have any worries on other games (GT5 has no dedicated servers), these as many of you guys who play GT5 a lot know are just a few obvious and easy to fix things that are missing, yet instead of fixing these things we get to play GT5 dress up with suits and helmets. For me that sums up the love hate relationship, GT5 is awesome but if the stupid holes were patched it could be unquestioanbly the best Racing game by so far that 'Forza' would become a swear word.
