Connecting 2 Laptops via USB. Question?!

Hey guys,

gonna start up right away :)

I have 2 Acer Laptops. Acer Aspire 5920G and Acer Ferrari 3000.

Today i bought a USB connector cable to connect my 2 laptops cause i wanted to make us of both screens. Like i can use my Aspire as main laptop and use 2 screens at once. Hope you guys understand what i mean.

So i connected the laptops, installed the driver but somehow i dont know how to make use of the 2 screens :indiff:

What software do i require so i can do what i wanna do?

I'm not sure if you can use two screens via USB (it's something I've never heard of anyway). Normally you would have to have a VGA out on your laptop which most of them have them. The other laptop would need a video input I assume.

I know there is a USB to VGA cable which comes with software.

There is an article on it here- although this for connecting to a VGA monitor not a laptop.

Well, i asked the guy in the computer store and he said that i could connect the 2 screens/laptops with that particular USB cable... guess i have to go back tomorrow and tell him something not so nice lol.

So i need a VGA cable... lemme see if i can find that in the shop

If you purchased the cable for using two screens I'm sure it would have needed software to run alongside it. I think the salesman may have assumed you were just using it for networking.

Before doing anything else you need to look at the main laptop you are going to be using (the one that will be sharing it's screen). See what video outputs you have. Now take a look at the other laptop to see what video inputs it has. You may have something like a DVI in.

There is also a guide on the Microsoft website which has pictures of the inputs you will need.
 
I've read of a way to use multiple monitors via ethernet as well, but I think that may have only worked by cloning the original screen. I think it's unlikely to find a laptop with video-in that it can use as a monitor.
