I think the thing about Nintendo is that they make games targeted at kids. PS2 and XBox games are mostly 3D and have fairly complicated controls. Most Nintendo games are animated and much simpler. I think the fact that there are a 🤬 of lot of kids out there accounts for some of Nintendo's success.

We think the games are a bit crap, but they're actually much better to younger kids. Can you picture a 6-7 year old playing SOCOM (headseat, online play, etc.)? Not really? See them still playing Super Mario Bros. 3? For hours and hours and hours ...

2 NES's, SNES, Game Boy, PS1 and PS2, had a Sega Genesis [Sega MD] given to me and used to have an Atari in my possession.

SNES, Gameboy colour, Gameboy advance, PS1, PS2, PSP
All awesome fun! Got a snes emulator other day, good old mario, best game ever! (am i allowed to say that in a gt forum? lol)

I can't see the table from my browser (excel database?), but i get the jist.

In order when first bought:

• Philips G7000 (Magnavox Odyssey2 in the US)
• Gameboy
• PS1
• PS2
• GBA
• Atari 2600 (ebay inducing regression)

In between the G7000 and the PS1 the various house holds i resided in at Uni owned:

• Sega Master System
• Sega Mega Drive
• SNES

Anyone have any idea how many Nintendo Virtual Boy's were sold? 5, 7, 8 maybe? :p

I did play the Virtual Boy once about 10 years ago in a store that had them to try out.

Virtual Boy ranks up there with the Power Glove.

See the way the NES nintendo & the SuperNES are a two part sales slice, same as that there PSX couplet.they're like chromosomes in the marketwave, could be a factor of good strategical adhesion.

teh PS3 as R0x0rs is another plateau, baby. It deepends how long the gamefeed will be to it as the PS1s run timed in at about a decade..

in edit;
I also owned a Sinclair spectrum from late1983 to 1990 & found myself on the Acorn Electron for Elite usw. i count these both as gaming consoles as i utilized them quite a bit for that .
otherwise; SuperNES, PSX, PS2(2)

Very surprised at how the GC did well compared to the XBOX.
Not surprised at the N64, it had quite the lengthy lifespan and lots of pokemon crack cocaine for kiddies.
Very surprised the PS2 hadn't surpassed the PS1 yet! Despite Sony's crazy exponential sales charts they show at every chance they get!

Personally, I gamed on (in order):

>>Mac Plus (crazy cars and test drive 2 ruled)

>>Mac LC575 (Marathon is still the best FPS game ever designed - ask any Bungie fan)

>>PlayStation 1 (Wipeout2097 - drool - my second favorite game after Marathon, this game has the best atmosphere and floaty physics!)

>>N64 (got this while getting better from open heart surgery - GOLDENEYE - 3rd best FPS ever made... The first being Marathon the 2nd being Halo1 (NOT Halo2)... yes I like Bungie but they're going too linear in game design - too commercial and mainstream now! I hope Halo3 surprises...)

>>PS2 (GT3 was the most fun and amazing for the time, GT4 is great and I know it to be the better game, but doesn't have the impact GT3 had now PCs have caught up).

>>PC (went to uni after school - get my first actual IBM compatible Windows box. Yes windows is as bad as I'd assumed. Unreal Tournament 1 era - it was awesome multiplayer on the college network! This PC gets upgraded to stay good for games - FarCry is my fav PC shooter so far. CRYSIS looks literally unbelievable for the next gen systems/pc! I enjoyed Half Life 2, but it didn't stay with me like Halo does, also the art direction is too geeky and inconsistent.)

>>GBA (F-zero was okay, mario was ok but I only ever wanted Super Mario 3 (no vege tossing rubbish) which came out after I'd sold the GBA). Bit of a dud really, not that fun games, just retreads.

>>XBOX (HALO basically legitimised the Xbox, PGR was just B-grade compared to GT from my perspective - although I played it and the sequel to completion on gold/platinum). My Xbox broke before I could get Forza. Bad early gen "Thomson" DVD drive in it... If you fluked getting one with a Phillips drive, your were sweet and it didn't break.... GRRR! ALL SYSTEMS SHOULD BE EQUAL Microsoft!

>>PSP (WipEout PurE - brilliant design, brilliant game! Still waiting for another must have PSP game though - probably GT4 mobile when released. Yes, I hate puzzle games although Lumines apparently good, and GTA is way better on any other system than PSP. Ridge racer was cool, but didn't last).

I won't be buying a 360, only if Halo2 absolutely knocks my socks, head AND shoulders clean off and its obviously more amazing AND more innovative than any new FPS... But I feel a retread coming on - just with shiny graphics, and lots of excess XB LIVE stuff I won't use (I like singleplayer games mostly and I'd never pay to play online when the pc can do it very well and for free).

I will get a PS3 the day GT5 hits. I'm figuring I won't even need a MS console this next gen, as PS3 will be able to handle FPS games brilliantly - the only genre I needed an Xbox1 for (unless you've played "Black" on PS2 )!

That is the entire history of my gaming experience, and the most important games from the systems I've owned (or rather, are in the cupboard packed away).

PS2 seems to be the only console to sell (or atleast ship) over 1 billion copys of software.

PS1's production has only halted recently, I still see years of PS2 production ahead yet, when they finally do stop production I expect PS2 to have out sold PS1.

Famine

1980-1984 = Sinclair ZX Spectrum 48k

I had one of these too, but didn't mention it with it being a 'home computer' rather than a 'games console' - even though i only ever used it to play games
