constantly rumbling cars

I didn't find anything about this in the search engine (though its probably just buried).

Every once in a while, when I set up a car to have a lot of horespower and I have the rumble feature set up on the dsc, it always rumbles when I accelerate. Like, even at top speed whenever I have the gas on it rumbles. Even if the gas is barely on.

One car that I have noticed this on is the audi TT.

Has anyone else noticed this?
 
Can I assume your PAL (Europe)? I've heared of strange occurences like that with the lotus' in the PAL versions.

What are your springs and dampers set at?
 
I'll have to check out the settings when I get home and figure out exactly which cars do this.

So far I think its only the volkswagen and the audi TT that have done that to me, but it could be more because I got frustrated with it and turned the feature off.

As for the PAL europe thing..... I have the american version of the game. Bought and played in Texas.
 
It basically feels like I'm running an off road course with that car. No matter what course I'm on. But only when I have the gas on at all. When I'm coasting or breaking lightly, it doesn't happen.
 
oh, and this has happened to me on the only two systems that I've ever played the game on. So I'm guessing its not really a glitch specific to my machine.

I usually play with some degree of traction control on, though, and this happened on runs when tire wear wasn't being kept track of. So it doesn't seem like the tires should be slipping constantly...
 
AFAIK this happens in certain powerful FWD or AWD cars with a high front power distribution (like the TT is rumored to have without the VCD installed). I believe it is to simulate the effect of torque steer.

When I was doing the 9 Boards challenge #10, the 500-hp Integra R would rattle the front any time the throttle was on. I've also noticed it in the TT and Beetle Cup car.

so I just mess with the vcd to make it stop. I'll post a follow up if that doesn't work. Thanks for the help you two!
 
That kinda sucks. Imean, its really irritating. The car doesn't feel fast and smooth when its rumbling like that - it feels rickety and slow.

So I don't know exactly what torque steer is, but I can't imagine that it makes the whole car shake. This seems like a mistake in the game.

Of course I could be wrong. Maybe this is realistic?
 
Torque steer is caused in FWD cars by the front wheels rotating at different rates, which makes the car pull slightly under acceleration, turning the steering wheel under your hands. It is more common in cars with with unequal-length driveshafts (technically called halfshafts in FWD). As the engine turns to accelerate the car, it actually twists the axles a little bit. If one axle is longer than the other, it twists more, causing torque steer. It can be fought by using and equal-length halfshaft design (which is more expensive) or and LSD (ditto).
 
I searched for settings to reduce torque steer with the LDS but I don't see any. And the LSD doesn't really make sense to me so I'm not sure I can find the right setting on my own.

I guess what I really need to do is to sit down and learn how to mess with the LSD...
 
ok here's my (un)educated guess about how to solve this problem with the LSD. Let me know if I'm off base (I can't try this out until tonight).


I reduce the initial accel and accel in the LSD....

that sort of thing can happen with FWD/4WD cars, have experienced that sort of thing myself, especially the high powered ones
 
I run a subwoofer on the little sound system I have the PS2 hooked up to, and most of the cars do rumble, particularly the race cars.
