It should be safe, Its the same as charging a droid or ipod on your pc. I have a pc usb hub on my ps3 for all my controllers and it works fine.

That Energizer charger is the best PS3 investment I've made. It charges two controllers at once and I have my Bluetooth charging through it as well. It's possible to do all three at the same time.

To answer your question: it is safe to charge the PS3 controller with anything that provides power and a USB hub.

I have the Energizer tower to and it's amazing. If one controller dies the other is always charged and ready to go.

I didn't like the built-in headset charger of the Energizer so I just plugged my original headset charger into the extra usb and boom!perfect.

It will be fine in a PC USB slot.

You can actually get the drivers to use the PS3 pad as a PC gamepad if you want - it's great :D

Generally I normally charge the PS3 pad up using a spare slot in the front of my TV, the one in my living room wall normally has someone's iPod in it :)

FWIW, I have my laptop on my coffee table and I essentially leave my DS3 plugged into it while I sit on the couch and play...nothing's gone wrong with it yet.

Why are people not just using the ports on the front of the PS3?

Depends on cable length I guess... and if (like mine) your PS3 sits quite low down on the TV unit the USB ports are a pain-in-the-proverbials to get to.

Where do you get the drivers to do that. I have tried to find them before and couldn't get it to work.

It's safe and it works. I do it all the time.

Because some of us have slims that only have two USB ports. Steering wheel in one, USB key in the other for frequent backups. It's just easier to plug into the PC (which always has a mini-USB cord attached anyway for peripherals and PSP) than it is to jiggle around the stuff in the front of the PS3.

I don't normally have anything plugged into the USB ports on the system, only when I need it. There's actually a cable hanging off it right now for charging, but it's the pathetic cable that came with the system. Which means I have to be sitting about a foot away from my TV to play while charging. I did it once, about made me sick. Very immersive, though, too bad the game I was playing at the time was Assassin's Creed and I was on top of a building.

Which reminds me, I need to get a new charging cable. This one should do the trick.

because my steering wheel and keyboard are plugged in... my ps3 has only 2 usb slots....(not 4 like some) .... anyways, thanks for the advice. much appreciated everyone :)
