but to those who use controllers merely because they can't justify spending money on a wheel, i ask: how much did you pay for ps3? how much did you pay for GT5? how much did you pay for the tv you're playin on? damn the gf and the spouses:scared:...go out and drop $50 on a used dfp(got my new dfgt for $72 on amazon) and live a little...you might come to like it.

Paying for a television set that allows you to watch hundreds of channels, movies and play video games makes sense. Paying for a system you will use for multiple games, both online and offline, as well as Blu-Ray movies, makes sense. Paying for a peripheral that you will use for one game (if you're not a multi-system user, and considering SHIFT2 is not out yet) doesn't... at least for some people. (some people would not even get as far as the television!) Yes, it's not a huge wad of cash, but some people have priorities... or we like to pretend that we do. And not having a plainly visible $100 steering wheel stuck on an ironing board in the living room helps to hide the fact that you've spent five times that on random video games over the past few months...

I used to have a DFP. I ran a G25 for a while, also. And while I enjoyed using both tremendously, setting them up and putting them away took a lot of time, so I would most often just boot up and play with the controller. And as I'm so used to driving on the controller, they added very little except some tactile feedback to the game. I'd do it again with a G27 if I had the space and money to build a cockpit, but for now, my DS3 is all I need.

Additional info to DS3 user, you can use the R3 analog stick for MT which is R3 UP = gear up and R# DOWN = gear down
I am using a G27 wheel from the start of GT5 and never good in DS3. lol

The only time I use my DS3 is late at night, when my DFGT would make too much noise.

A little bit of false logic in there, i have been using my DFP since Gt4, have used it for Dirt 1+2, Shift1, Grid, Gt5 and will use it for Shift2 so that is 7 games. as far as set-up is concered i build myself a little wooden table that doubles as a sidetable next to the couch and I am using a type of lounge chair that is fairly similar to a racing chair and is used as a normal every day chair. So your just left with 2 minutes to set-up, worth it in my opinion, all it takes is a little thinking out of the box.

Well... personally, I'm waiting until my kid is out of preschool, and thus out of the house most of the day, before I go back into the world of wheel ownership... I had a set-up that used a side-table that no one else wanted... just bundle everything onto it after playing... but it was still difficult to keep with a little kid running around the house and occassionally banging away at the wheel pretending to be a bus driver.

I'm thinking of a semi-cockpit with a spare monitor... we used similar systems for car show booths before... but that'll come when I finally have an extra room all to myself.

LOl, I can understand about he Kid, i don't have any of those but my 2 german Shepherds think it makes a great plaything, I guess in some ways dogs are easier to train than kids:)

I'm a DS3 only user. Left stick steering, right stick acceleration/brake. L2 and R2 are downshift and upshift respectively.

In the main game (non-seasonal events) I've gotten gold on everything except the GP/F and Suzuka Vettel challenges, the last two A-Spec Endurance races and the last four B-spec endurance races.

I really hope that guy is being honest about getting all gold on the Vettel challenges with the DS3 because I was beginning to lose hope on it.

I used my Driving Force Pro for GT5 Prologue, and thought the controller sucked but in GT5 I love the controller support!

I think it is pretty much perfect, I always feel in control, and sometimes when over the limit I am out of control, but still feel in control. It's hard to explain, but controller support is amazing in GT5!

DS3 user here!
Accelerate X, brake square and steering with the left analog stick.

Got everything gold except for a few a-spec and b-spec endurance races but I could win gold but it's to boring to drive xp.

And like Instrumental I need gold on the Vettel Challenge.. Got silver on the Nurburgring GP/F, gold on Monza and bronze on Suzuka -.-'.
I really doubt that guy got gold on all 3 tracks. I'd like to see some videos of him doing it ^_^.

I use a DS3 here too, with more or less all the standard button bindings. I have always been using a controller, since the days of GT3 and GT4, and I am totally use to it.

There are a few of the licenses though that I just can't Gold, grrrr.

I use a DS3 and right stick for throttle/brake. A DS3 is a world of difference thought between Sixaxis (or DS3 with vibration off) since the little bit of track feedback felt through vibration gives you a better idea of the surface handling, driving without vibration on a pad I might as well be driving blind. Hope to get a wheel in the future when I got the funds.

I use the controller and my main button config is...

Right Stick: Acceleration / Brake
Left Stick: Steering
L2: Handbrake

Never used the stick to accelerate and brake before but now i cant go back to the triggers

I'm on the DS3 myself, though I use the triggers to break. I blame my massive Forza playing for burning in the control scheme into my mind.
