No. You're only supposed to use either the USB or Ethernet. Not both at the same time. Your actually doing the opposite of what your trying to do.

Well in theory your computer would be assigned 2 ip adresses and the connection would be split amongst the 2, thus doubling your speed. I have seen this work before, although I belive 2 NICS were used, not USB/Ethernet. But it should work.

Are you sure? Your computer might have 2 IP addresses, but so what? Those IP address are just private addresses that have no effect on your connection to the web. All that your ISP cares about is the traffic going to your broadband modem/router, which has a single IP address that websites and other world wide internet traffic uses. You could be running dozens of PCs off the same connection or the same PC off multiple connections to the modem for all they care.

Why should connection to a PC to a broadband modem via USB and Ethernet increase your allocated bandwidth, but connecting several PCs/laptops to a single broadband modem via different cables/wireless wouldn't?

The idea was to get reliability, not extra speed, and so far it has worked, normally, the connection would drop out every 5-6hours, but it has been up for nearly 24 hours now, but looking at the individual connections, I can see the the USB connection dropped out just over an hour ago, but has reconnected.

I was questioning the idea that adding 2 connections to your broadband router would "double your speed" as spock suggested.

Still, I'm surprised that it would make any difference. The only time my DSL ever cuts out on me is a problem with my ISP or phonelines (the DSL and ACT lights on my router go dead, and that's very rare), or because the cable has come loose.

Sounds like something is wrong with your setup if it cuts out that often.
