Oh, wow, the ZX. Don't see them too much anymore, but growing up, this was one of the most common cars on the road in my area. I remember a time when these were just about everywhere, even long after its successor, the Xsara, hit the market. The whole time, I thought to myself, "Wow, these cars are not cool in any way, shape, or form!" Everyone had them. And when they were no longer the last generation, they got passed down, so I ended up associating (consciously or not) ZX with the carfuls of (often drunk) teenagers and young adults that drove or rode in them.

On the other hand, well-treated examples were damn near unkillable. Incredibly durable and pretty good fuel economy if you didn't hoon them or drove like a complete rooster.

I am voting Uncool but with one caveat - the ZX was a good car for the time, but was it cool? Not at all! It's an uncool car I actually miss.

Its a real dilemma the ZX. On the one side, its the first of the bland Citroens. On the other it was a really good car, especially the sportier ones. This was because it was basically a Peugeot, who were the absolute kings of chassis tuning at the time. But despite quality being a big step up from previous PSA cars, the fit and finish still wasn't anything to write home about.

I think on balance it has to Meh.

It has that early '90s super bland qualities that only a car of that era would have, but I personally quite like how much is understated, even if it's the spicy version.
Also it has some good power for its class; 161hp is nothing to scoff at but other than that I really can't imagine why someone would buy this car instead of a hot Golf, Tipo, Escort or especially the 306 of the time.
Meh

I would say there's nothing really to this Citroen to say it's cool or better. I don't think it's Uncool or worse, either. So this is a complete Meh to me.

Since I still haven't thought of anything to say about this car, other than casually enjoying the (albeit understated) French styling from a distance, I guess that points to a meh.

Not a bad car in it's day, but you'd have to be a big Citroen fan to choose one of these over the mechanically similar Peugeot 306 GTI-6 which was the class-leading hot-hatch of its time in that size segment.
