This idea came from another members post and as such i will be continuing the discussion in here to try and organise some cops and robbers style racing online!

The basic idea is a set group of people with say 6 cops and 2 robbers and the idea is to chase around a track and try to contain the robbers. There will be time limits and failure to capture and hold the robbers for a period will mean the robbers win! If the cops catch them then it's win win for the cops!

This video posted by... diegorborges shows the idea perfectly!! http://www.vimeo.com/18057539

Anyway, if your interested then sign up and post in here to discuss some rules. Any events will more than likely take place in the evenings GMT.

Look forward to some racing!

Race 1 - 11pm GMT January 6th 2011

Track - Tokyo R246
Time Limit - 15mins
Aids - None apart from ABS.
For first race lets all use Premium cars under 400bhp.

No doubt tomorrow we will have more than one race during tomorrow nights session. So i imagine other tracks will be used after the first race.

Please add my PSN stating 'GTP Cops and Robbers' and then we organise a room!

Cops - In white or black cars.

Robbers - In colourful cars.

This will be fun! I really hope I can join in time as I'll log in pretty late tonight.

But as I said. Pics and replays are mandatory, please post some pics after the action. I bet it'll be epic :)

Vids and pics should defo make it online im sure. Im hoping this will be a regular thing as it sounds like epic fun!

SIGN ME UP! Also, I suggest someone use their mic to play some chase music, or some rock to get everyone in the mood.

Current rule ideas are along the lines of....

Sticking to cars of 300bhp or less.
Any Drivetrain although FR/MR may be preferable for enjoyment!
No aids allowed so to maximise skids/slides/oversteer/etc
All cops must use same car
All robbers must use same car
Cops = White
Robbers = Black

I was thinking if we stick with cheaper premium cars everyone can coordinate colours etc, plus the damage will look rather good!

We could do the cop cars Italian style...

...in Murceilago's

That sounds like a good idea too, high entry price though and i don't want the players with less money to feel alienated. An Italian race could be organized tho! ;)

Was away for a minute, but I think the cops should be in black cars, but let the robbers be in any other color instead of just white (obviously not something abnormally close to black). Adds just a bit more variation.

And why the below 300hp? Seems that if anything, the robbers should have a tad more HP, since they are going up against a bunch of cops. :)

No mic music please...I have several sources to choose from for my own music to listen to. :)

Well, thinking about... sounds like a good idea to have robbers on any other colors... seems more accurate.

For Cops... white or black. Any of these will do ok for me. About the 300hp limit. True. See the Focus video... its pretty hard to keep up with an experienced robber... if you do a handbrake turn and escape, its a whole lot of work to gain traction and get on route again!

How does a race at 11pm GMT tomorrow 6th Jan sound?

Early enough for our american friends to be involved and not too late so that the UK peeps can't get in on this?

I was thinking the nurb as a track but it might be a little too big for just 8 or 10 cars? Shall we start on a city course first? Maybe tokyo R246? Time limit of 15mins per race?

Another thought...rather than limit the robber cars to a certain make/model, what if they were limited to a certain power-to-weight ratio? Much more variation with similar performance.

And I vote for ABS = 1 (or allowed), but no other aids.

It's called Ring Run. Gotta be on the Nurb IMO. :)

This needs more thought.

At the moment there's nothing stopping me being a cop, hammering down a straight at 150mph and hitting a crim head on as they exit a corner. The crims will never make it.

I think the best way to do this is all to start in the same place.

The crims are given a 5 second headstart, then the police have to chase them down. That way, if you want to get significantly ahead to roadblock etc you have to drive ahead.

It does mean the police cars have to be a little more powerful and fast, or they'll never catch up.

Edit: Put me down as a robber.

I think it should be kept on the ring and La Sarthe. Because they are big, they have night racing... yeah, with lots of cops it'll be a long run for the robbers!

Forget the power/weight ratio stuff. It'll just be too unbalanced.

Put the police in BMW M5's or something, and the crims in a nippy hatchback.

Nah, dunno... starting all at the same its almost like well... racing.

Think about... a skilled robber will be able to escape. it's hard. trust me.

Not really.

What's to stop me just building up some speed on the straight at Le Sarthe and hitting you head on as you come into it?

Your car will be ruined, and every cop on the track will be swarming all over you. You'll get nowhere.

If you be a good cop you'll hit him. If you be a good robber, you'll escape. That's how it works... :)

And in a 12 people room, we gonna need like 3 robbers, if you destroy your cop car at first, you're out from the game... got it?

I agree, i think that once the race begins Robbers are given 30 secs to get away forwards or backwards round the circuit and then the cops can come and hunt them down.

We also need to have a good proportion more cops than robbers so that cops can do roadblocks and work in pairs, etc.

I think at night it would be more fun if the cops are scattered about waiting, and the robbers try to get past them, more like IRL. Otherwise, it's just racing and we already have that.

And I still like the idea of having cops being assigned to sectors, although I'm not sure how it could be implemented.
