Our octane is rated (research + motor / 2). Research octane number is tested with a lower rpm and lower intake air temperature then motor octane number so 98 RON is lower when measured in MON (just a guess but I would say about 85 MON). If you want a more specific explanation I can look it up. My truck has 8.3-1 compression and runs 14.7 psi (1 bar) of boost with about a 130* intake temp under boost and I have no knock/detonation with 93 R+M/2 octane gas.

98RON ("Super-unleaded"), if it had an MON of 85, would have a PON of 91.5. 95RON, assuming a similar percentage difference (although intuitively it'd be slightly lower, so a higher number) would have a MON of 82, for a PON of 88.5.

I'm not surprised you have no knock with 93 PON - expert advice is to use the lowest octane rating that gives you no knock, and you're using the highest PON available for road cars. The question is would you get any knock with lower octane ratings? Try your 91 for a couple of tanks.

Yeah its annoying that they removed the orginal mini, they are great cars especially since back in the 60's and 70's they raced alongside the aussie V8 behomoths often beating the pants off them. What perfect vehicle it would of been for the narrow street circuits you can find in GT4. Is it possible that it exists on the GT4 disc much like the Diablo in GT3?

I should have been more specific when I said “no knock”. I occasionally get 1-2* knock retard at shift points because of slight boost spikes, and not having forged crank/rods/pistons I think I’ll keep using 93.
bo do nu quan lot nam tui ngu cao cap cho be thoi trang cong so gia re vay lien cong so nu chup anh thoi trang dep
When my IC water pump died I had ~180* intake temps under boost and that caused 6*+ knock, I don’t know how much it would have caused if I had stayed at wot for more then a few seconds.

Ah, now some occasional knock is acceptable, so 93PON is the lowest octane you can use.

What the hell power is that truck running? FI too, I assume?

Because it sucks ass. thats why its not in the game . im pissed that they dont have all the nissan skylines.
eg. Z1, Z2.
anyway. a "full tune" mini would get pwned on any track/surface/whatever, by a friggin stock civic. so go have sex with jamie oliver and the queen, and quit *****ing

It doesnt really bother me about the Mini not being in the game. Its a small box which seems to be involved in the FWD revolution in the UK. Musch rather have proper small cars like the older Lotus and the Ginetta.

But then I own a XR4i and dont really like small cars anymore :) .

Respect to the mini for its motorsport heritage of course. But if it was in GT4, I would not be driving it.

Sure, that explains the original Beetle, and too numerous to mention early Japanese cars. There is a saying, better to say nothing and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

BMW may have used the Mini name, but not the heritage. Their current version is built with BMW parts which are now popping up in the new 1 series. I do not have a problem with the new Mini, only it should not be called a Mini. (Same as the film The Italian Job... but I disgress)

AFAIK the rights to both the Mini name, and the original Mini design (although this has been licensed out to a company called British Heritage to build replacement bodyshells) is owned by BMW. The fact the original Mini is available in the Japanese version shows that it has been deliberately witheld from the American and European versions. I can only think this is because if people could play with it in the game, opinion would sway away from the New Mini, possibly harming sales.

Oh and because I can't resist showing off my baby...

And the new Dodge Charger shouldn´t be called Charger, but it is.
Even if it is built by the same company, the classic one is a legend,
while the new one is just another box from Chrysler.

Leave the name alone. The classic Mini has nothing to do with the
new one. Personally i like the new one, i own a Cooper S. Perfect car.

Please keep in mind, before calling the BMW guys a bunch of wankers,
that they:

a) created a huge amount of jobs
b) they did that in Grat Britain, not Germany
c) the kept the brand alive

Try to see it in a more loyal angle, and we all will be fine here.
No need to attack any nationality.

And the parts in the mini are not transferred to the 1-series,
more likely they were taken from the former 3-series.

As opposed to the devastatingly fast Subaru 360, Daihatsu Midget, Nissan CUBE and Citroen 2CV?

You want MORE Skylines? Nearly 10% of the cars in GT4 are already Skylines.

Not paying much attention, were you? Let's check this from an earlier post:

Do keep up, surok.

Also, if memory serves, in GT3 a "full tune" Mini had 178hp (nowhere near what it can reach in the real world) - 18 more than a stock Civic - and weighed just over half the Civic's weight.

Mathematics say "You wrong!".

by using the name they are using the heritage...thats the point of using the name.

that the mini has been part of the japanese release does not show it has been deliberately withheld from the us and pal version in order not to draw any attention away from the new mini. all it shows is that it was deliberately withdrawn from the game, for an unknown reason.

if bmw would not want any attention or interest for the old mini, they would not sell the rights to build replacement parts to another company.

My Dad owns a Mini Cooper S (new model) and my brother owns a modified original. I don't think you can compare one to the other, they are so different.

I went out in the original mini (130bhp plus weight reduction) and we overtook a Saab turbo like it was standing still. The fun factor is amazing.

The new mini has a lot going for it too, but has a more refined feel. The figures in the game seem a little conservative. I'm told that most of them are nearer to 175bhp when delivered and BMW did something to my Dad's one which brought it up to around 220 on a rolling road.

I'd say in GT3 they somehow didn't quite catch the feel right and I was hoping that would be sorted in GT4. I was also hoping that they'd get the PT Cruiser GT in, but there you go.

It is a shame that there aren't more cars from outside Japan, but I still love the game. It's strange that with so many Japanese cars they still haven't got any of the three that I've owned; Nissan Stanza, Datsun Sunny and the Datsun Cherry (wasn't that based on an Alfa or something?

I think it was just a big mistake. If the original beetle is there, if the 2CV is there, them the mini have to be there.

Off topic: Anyone misses the citroen DS? No French spoken?

I've never been a big Mini fan, whether it be the original or current German version. My dislike of the original was brought about by too many people I used to go to school with, trying to tell me that it was in fact the greatest car ever made. This is not the case, and I hate people forcing their views on me, especially when they don't have time for mine.

For me the new version has missed the point. The Mini is meant to be cheap, fun and basic motoring, which the current one is anything but. I think someone mentioned it already. It's just a marketing mans dream, and BMW have sold a badge, not a car.

Back to the thread in hand. Even through I'm not a Mini fan, I'd still like to see it in the game. It's a car worthy of this great game, and the more cars the better IMO. If people don't like it, then don't drive it. I don't see the point of the Nissan Cube or Daihatsu Move CX, but someone out there wants to try them out, so that's cool by me.

Surok - Chill dude. It's only a computer game.

It's a shame that while almost every single Japanese company on the game has a small car from the era of the original Mini (I'm talking Honda N360, Z-Act, Subaru 360 etc etc) that PD didn't include one of the most famous and iconic cars ever created. The Japanese bias really shows. 👎

...The Japanese bias really shows. 👎

Well said.

I can think of 30+ cars from Europe that should have made the game. BMW, Lotus, Mini, Alfa, Fiat and plenty more have made plenty of cars worthy of note which should have been given the nod of lesser Japanese cars. I don't doubt for a second there are plenty of American cars left out that should have made the game as well.

Lets hope PD sort this out for GT5.

I never even knew there was a mini that was older until GT3, and never cared for them anyway. I'm more of a GTO guy. Although I've come to like the BMW M3 a little bit more after GT4.

Also, I think we should get a petition going to either reduce the amount of japanese cars, or increase all the rest, and send it in to PD.

Ok, I'm not tryin to step on anyone's toes here, but maybe you're forgetting this game is made and developed in Japan. They're catering the game to Japanese buyers, not hardcore car enthusiasts in Europe/Britain. They have the right to be a little biased, because it's where they're from. Who knows, maybe more people in Japan want the Subaru 360 than a Mini. But, didn't the Mini make it into the Japanese version? If you're British, why not just buy the European version of the game? Didn't the Mini make it into that one?

Pretty much what I'm tryin to say is, when Britain makes a good racing game, they can have all the Mini's and "heritage cars" that they could ever dream of and the "Stupid yanks" and the "Japanese" won't be able to say ****. Until then, Japan's runnin the show. Suck it up.

Yes, the Mini is in the Japanese version of the game. No it isn't in the European version.

That's fair enough, but Japan is only a small part of the overall market. PD need to start putting in more European & American cars. I've played endless racing games over the years and I've never seen a game so bias towards one countries car manufacturers.

If this game had been made in Europe, you'd have seen a good balance of cars from all ages from every country....and Ferrari, Porsche and Lambo would have been in. I think PD have underestimated the pulling power of the "big three". But by all accounts these three wanted too much money for their licenses, hence why they are still not in the game.

Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Porsche weren't in the game because of licensing issues (I believe EA has exclusive rights to those vehicles) ...

DuefoMachine
The new MINI One and MINI Cooper were then released, and both appear in the game (although strangely appearing in the UK section, and not the German one, alongside BMW)

What is so strange about this? If it wasn't made in Germany...........

I hate sounding like a father, but this car brings me memories from a time when it was really something to see a fast, sportive car in the street. The Mini doesn't fall in that category, but it was quite exotic in Spain and it was fun to drive, and very "in"!

I don't think KY (I can never type that without snickering, I'm so immature :indiff: ) is losing any sleep over the perceived lack of Euro & American cars in GT4. In fact, I'm sure his giant bed stuffed with our money & filled with cute Japanese girls is very comfortable...

There was a feature of GT4 on a English car show (Fifth Gear). They mentioned on there that Sony were unwilling to fork out the required amount these three wanted for their licenses. EA did hold the licenses, but by all accounts those near exclusive deals ended in November last year.

It probably is very comfortable. But he wants to create a complete history of the car with his games (hench why the Ford Model T and Benz Motor Carriage are in the game). And so long as he focuses mainly on Japanese manufacturers he'll never truly archive that.

Europe is the birth place of the car, and some of the most important cars ever made came from Europe. Ferrari alone account for a massive % of this. At the end of the day, Japan played catch up, and had to focus on manufacturing technics, and giving the customer reliable cars, with lots of extras (think air con, elec. windows etc). I'm not saying Japan is not important. I'm just saying that there needs to be a balance when GT5 arrives in 2027 :sly:
