Corrupt USB?

Just had a power surge at my house while playing GT5. On reboot got a corrupted data message. Okay, I back up my info once a week on a USB. No biggie, right?

I throw in the USB and it says corrupted data too ( it was not in the PS3 when surge hit)?!

I was literally walking out of the house when this happened so I had no time to deal with it.

Do I need to delete the file off the PS3 before it can recognize my USB save? Or am I just flat-out effed?

I'm currently 40/36 and 29 cars away from having them all and its taken me since release day to get this far. If I can't save this thing then I'm selling GT5. I can't put in another 9-10 months. Breaks my heart.

I think the same thing happened to me and it gave the option to rebuid harddrive or something. I accepted and when it was done, everything was still there. Hope its same for you dude.

Thanks for the well wishes guys, but after I got home I had a chance to dive into the problem and its all gone. The weird thing is my other USB still has its save, but not my main one.

Crushing.

This was a great game. I'm going to miss it.

That's truly a bummer, mate. 👎 Surely this doesn't mean that you have to stop, though? Carry on from your other save or why not start from scratch again & just have fun driving? With your experience & the high payouts you'll be back in decent cars in a flash. You have nothing left to prove, especially to yourself. :) Just have a gas racing the AI in more equal cars & racing real people online...

Doubt I'll do that Jay. My other save only had one car on it. I used it mostly to dupe chromes and tickets.

I was able to build up my garage by trading for the high priced cars before the $1M trading restriction too. I can't even imagine trying to buy all of those cars now. Sony has squashed the 5-lap Indy rubber band race so doing it over night will take even longer because now you have to do the 10-lap Indy race instead.

I've never been an online racer. Don't really think I'm good enough. The quest was always about 40/40 and getting all the cars.

What's weird is that your USB was not in the system, but it's save file is corrupted, too?!?

Hmm, my thinking is that the GT5 Data file, not the save file, is corrupted. Did you try "Salvage Files" or whatever it is called in the Options? Then, backup the save that is on your hard drive to another USB. Then, copy your USB save game over your game save and try to load the game? I say to backup the save game that is on your hard drive first, in case it is still intact and only the data file is corrupted.

I have also heard that re-installing the files to your hard drive can fix this, but I'm guessing that you tried that already.

With the seasonal events triple payout and remote racing you could be back at 40/40 in a few weeks. If you change your mind send me an FR and I will share with you the cars you need and send you the car of your choice. You probably will have to wait another 3-4 years before GT6, so you have all your time to restart the game!

I'm with you mate.
Telephone line struck by lightning last weekend.
Fried my telephone,television,Satellite receiver,DVD player and PS3!
Got, sorry HAD all cars ,gear ,40/40 - just collecting the last few colour versions of certain cars.
My backup memory stick was in PS3 at the time so probably fried too.
Cheer up there's always someone worse off than you!

I have 2 backups and I still worry about losing it all:nervous:. I would reinstall game data and see if that helps. I really hope it works out for you.

Thank you for the suggestion Go. I will try that. I haven't deleted anything yet - maybe I'm still in denial!

I put the corrupt USB in my laptop yesterday and the file was weird looking. A long string of letters (didn't look like a normal PS3 save) and was 0 bytes. So I wonder how long I've been backing up my file and it was saving correctly. I know it was working because I used it to do a re-install the first time I save on it.

I'm softening on the thought of starting over. And great point v-fal ... it will be forever before they put GT6 out! Probably on the PS4!

Again, thanks to all for your suggestions!!
