Corrupted Data on Memory Cards

I have a big problem. I have a 1KB corrupted file on my 2nd memory card and it's preventing me from loading any game saves on that card. This card has my first MGS3 game saves, and I would like to have them back. I cannot delete, nor copy, the 1MB corrupted file. I called Sony, and they said, "Toss the card, and buy a new one."

That doesn't sound like a great idea, so I'm wondering if any of you had this problem. Or, do you have a possible sollution? I think saving game saves from my OPM disc just might be the culprit. God damn Sony and their attempts to make purchasers lives, of non Sony gear owners, hell. Both my cards are from Sony as well as all my gear.

I thought, since I have to toss out the card anyway, maybe I could open it up and erase the memory with a magnet. Then, reformat the card, or something similar. Know of any fixes? It seems stupid that one KB of info can ruin an entire 8MB card.

Can you copy your MGS3 saves?

eg: from the corrupted card to a different one?
Nope. I can, but it always asks me, "Do you want to overide a saved file?" And, I don't want to do that because my second MGS3 game saves are on that other card. Plus, it's never a good idea to copy files from a corrupted memory card. Even the Sony guy said that.

If you know which block of memory is corrupted, cant you go into a game that has the option to delete memory blocks, and delete the corrupted one?

If you have an X-Port, you should be able to get the option to completely format the card which then gets rid of the corrupted data. I think you can get that max drive thing that does it as well. I had this with my first memory card, but at the time I didn't have an X-Port so I *****ed at eb untill they gave me a new one, because I lost a whole load of data and I couldn't save anything. I've had success with the X-Port with a friends memory card that did the same thing and after the format it worked fine.

No, that doesn't work because the corrupt data shows up as a blue cube with the title of Corrupted Data. Plus, my PS2 wont let anything load up. I know, I've tried almost everything and nothing works.

Thanks for the info. I'll look into this X-Port thing to see if it's worth to purchase. Maybe now I can share some game data with you guys if I do get it.

No, the Sony guy I talked to asked me about that. I do get OPM, and I do download game data from them, but I don't think it could have been that. To be honest, I think it could be the MGS3 to MGS2 data transfer, it there were any. I have no idea if there was, but people say there was. It supposedly creates different dialog in the game, but I don't see how it could. And, all my trouble started when I started playing MGS3.

Thanks for heads-up.

You could always pick up a new memcard and transfer your data to it. That way, if it doesn't work, at least your good card isn't ruined.

This happened to me with my GT3 game save. I was 78% or so through the game and lost it all, I got a new mem. card. I didn't have many other games saved on the card though, so it wasn't a total loss. (GT3 was the first game I got, so I played that as much as possible :D ) Good luck with your dilemma...hopefully it turns out better than mine did so you can get your game saves back.

It really isn't worth getting an X-port for this. Its around 20-30$ when you can get a memmory card for half that.
