Could we be seeing a dirt/off-road DLC track?

I was just thinking that Dirt tracks might be coming, and the first one might be Pike's Peak. It is curious that there are a lot of Rally Cars in the game and being added but know dirt tracks to use them.

Well, if they do make dirt tracks there better be some with Richard Burns Rally style. Make 'em really thin, bumpy, and difficult! Also I think they should make some long, thin, road tracks with large drop-offs. Add some road rally!

I'd like to see pretty much anything that suits the rally cars we've been getting -- real-world or fantasy, dirt or paved. A rally course implies tight corners, few straights, elevation changes, and rural roads, all things I've been hoping for in track DLC.

cuco33 -- Porsche events would have only occupied the European Manufacturers section. ;) If there is any meaning behind the blank spots, we could have some surprises ahead.

You mean like fujimi Kaido or the sorely missed original Rally Positano? These are basically Point-to-Point tarmac rally tracks that have been joined at either end to serve a dual purpose.

The full sidewinder track was also a good playground for rally cars.

dirt tire physics is a completely different ball game and require much higher mesh fidelity than current track models, I don't see how they will put such effort into a rather niche branch of motorsport.

I really hope so because Porsche is the #1 manufacturer I wanted in FM4 and the one I miss the most :(

And I too would love to see something that suits the rally cars. I just don't get how we see the Ford Raptor, Suzuki hill climber, Audi S1, etc and no offroad or even street stage rally type of course. Maybe this is all getting things ready for FM5 for the next xbox? I don't know... just don't get it

A Tarmac rally based on somewhere like Corsica would be ideal. It's rallying and the tight courses would be a thrilling challenge to complete clean. Especially for rivals mode.

That's what I'm thinking. Turn 10 like to do things properly, so perhaps they've been working on a rally mode and are waiting until the next Xbox arrives before they can implement it while keeping 60FPS. Otherwise, it would be a bit strange to implement so many rally cars (SX4, Quattro Group B) in a tarmac racing game.

rally should be on uts dedicated game really, even best rally sim suffer from a lack of really long stages, and lack of stages kills the spirit of rallying, driving into the unknown with the help of pace notes, id they can produce that much content they might as well charge full price. on the other hand rallycrossing is a much sounder idea, many retired group b cars are active in rallycrosd events.

TOCA 3 managed to include some pretty convincing (to me at least) tarmac rally stages in among its circuit races. It looked like they may have used some of the code from McRae Rally though for the commentary and HUD. They also had DiRT style dune buggying though, so I guess it helped that were developing multiple games based on different driving disciplines.

If Turn 10 went the offroad route I'd like to see them dip their toes in the water with a rally only game, but it's hard to imagine them spending hard earned time and resources on a genre which I think has had only limited sales outside Europe.

The inclusion of so many rally cars is a mystery, though.

Might have said this already in another thread but seeing that the Audi S1 has an optional Pike's Peak rear spoiler as an upgrade... what are your thoughts on the possibility that we might see a paved Pike's Peak??

That seems increasingly likely. The SX4 is a Pikes Peak car too. Sounds great to me!

I've probably built 5 or 6 rally cars in the game, so I'd really like to see a place to race them. Plus the SVT Raptor needs a place to roam too.

The laws of physics don't change when you turn onto a gravel road. It should only affect the tire/grip model, and maybe the way the engine handles irregular road surfaces. Though personally I would guess FM4's suspension modelling just isn't up to the task.

If the current physics engine couldn't handle the switch without being rewritten, they should already be rewriting it. That should be a top priority for FM5 anyway; I don't think much changed between FM3 and FM4 other than the new tire model. I'm sure that took a lot of time to work in all by itself.

But the way tires behave and grip on a different surface is directly related to the laws of physics, so yes, they would have to create a new physics engine

I would define "physics" as the laws of kinetics and the inner workings of the car. Those don't change. Tire behavior and grip, I mentioned that; "It should only affect the tire/grip model."
