Okay, time for a poll. I want to know how many GTP members use coupons. More specifically I want you to explain how you use coupons, why you use them, and if you think they’re worth using.

Do you buy those coupon books and try to make your money back from savings from the coupons?

Do you try to use every single coupon that you are given (on the back of receipts, in the mail, etc.)?

Do you go out of your way to look specifically for coupons for items you’d normally buy?

Do you normally not use coupons but if you’re given something eye catching you use it?

Do you go out of your way not to use coupons?

I'll vote when the poll is up, but I use coupons if I come across it.

If you shop for your household, you could save a lot of money with coupons. I'm too lazy with those things though, don't want to look through coupon books or newspapers in case there is a coupon for something I might need.

Only exception is the oil change ones. I've been known to tear the place apart for "Jiffy Lube" or "Oil Can Henry" coupons, but that happens only every 3,000 miles.

Edit: I voted "if I see something interesting", but "rarely" would've also been correct.

I would usually use a coupon if I need to purchase something and I know that I have a coupon for it, although I would not use coupons for the sake of using coupons on products that I would otherwise never buy. I do go through the coupons that come with the Sunday newspaper, but I wouldn't go buy a coupon book, which I find to be somewhat... rediculous.

I'll only use coupons if they save a decent amount. I'm not concerned with saving 50 cents on a box of cereal. The last coupon I used was for Circuit City. It was a 10% off coupon, which saved me $250. That was certainly worth it. Most others...not so much.

Precisely. If I have a coupon, and I remember it, I'll use it. However, I don't go out of my way for anything coupon-related.

Emily's a couponaholic (although, she's a discountaholic in general), but aren't all girlfriends?

"NO *rips off arm* THIS one is on discount!"

Whiskey kills germs. Therefore, it counts as toothpaste. I don't see many coupons for the liquor store, though :odd:.

I voted "Yes, if I see something interesting", but I only use coupons for one thing.

When we buy groceries here, we get discounted fuel at certain stations. So, I'll use the fuel coupon when I fill up each week.

This is the only coupon I use though. Although, I have a friend who's wallet is bulging. You know, just incase...

Using coupons feels awkward for me. It makes me feel stingy, I guess.
You rarely have any money to spend on anything even if you save with a coupon but you should check out our weekly shopping docket there is usually a Subway coupon on there.

Bottle of toothpaste?
Geeez Blake, come join the real world :).

Anyway about the only thing I use coupons for is petrol. Coles docket gives me 4c a litre off and if I remember to take the coupon with me to the Shell petrol station then I'll use it. Same with pizza vouchers, I'd use them if I ever remembered to take them with me.
I got one of those coupon books when I bought my car earlier in the year. I think there was only one shop in the whole book that I could/would use a coupon in and that was for a 2 for 1 coffee. Most of the other stuff I either wouldn't use or it was for places interstate.

I don't usually unless you count instant rebates or online stuff like that. Besides, I'm part Chinese. Not as bad as my mom though which she is all Chinese. :dopey:

Never have used a coupon in my life, but then again, i'm not the one who pays the bills.

My mom on the other hand will sometimes look for coupons and uses them when she has them.

I never bother, I always end up either losing them or forgetting about them completely until they expire. The only one I've used recently was a cinema discount coupon which I got for going the previous week anyway.

Nope, but my accounting teacher in high school wouldn't even step inside a store without some sort of coupon.

I never use them. And i think the whole concept is ridiculous in the first place. Life is already full of things we gotta remember, and the corporations that supply us have figured out yet another way to clutter it. Honestly, i dont' know what the benefit is supposed to be; why don't they just give us the damn discounts we deserve???

And this goes for those dumb little swipe cards. You know..you get to the checkout counter, you swipe your card and it gives you discounts on certain items? It's yet another thing to clutter my wallet. another thing i can lose. :guilty: I do have a Safeway card and use it occasionally, but how often do i shop there? Maybe twice a month. I'd rather give my money to the natural-food store up the street.

On the other hand, i'm 40 now. If i was in the habit of clipping coupons & using the card more often, who knows...i'd probly have several hundred dollars at my disposal. 💡

I can't even recall the last time I used a coupon. I know I've got some in my car for Golfing, but I have yet to put them to use...

Those fuel dockets are utter crap, you have to spend 30$ to get 4c a litre off. On my 40L tank that amounts to an amazing $1.60. Even saving that every week is only 83$ a year, yet you've had to buy at least $1530 worth of stuff.

Then you get the people like my mother who if she's brought say 25$ of stuff she'll go and waste 5$ on checkout chocolate to get the coupon... :banghead:

Yeah, spending extra to get the coupon is dumb. But when the $30 is $30 you'd have spent anyway, like groceries for instance, it makes perfect sense.

Can you or anyone explain how this is remotely relavent?

That's sooo not how it happened.

I absolutely have use a coupon every occasion I get! I will choose a restaurant I have a coupon for over one I don't have a coupon for. And I will shop at Woolies instead of Coles simply because the Woolies petrol station is more conveniently located for me. We had an entertainment book last year with hundreds of coupons. It inspired quite a few good days out to places we wouldn't have even thought to go to if it hadn't been there to advertise them to us AND give us a discount.

To coupons!!

I'm guessing maybe Chinese moms like to cut coupons?? But if that's what he meant, aint it true that many mothers who aren't Chinese also cut coupons?

Never used one. Then again i'm not a 75 year old women with nothing better to do with my time than cut out little bits of paper and create massive ques behind me at the till whilst i fanny about in my purse looking for the right scrap of paper giving 4p off a tin of custard.

No, seriously, i can't even remember the last time i even saw a coupon of any discription.

There used to be subway coupons on the back of bus tickets that I'd always use. Then they'd give you a sheet of more coupons, that I'd always use. Then they'd give you anotere sheet of coupons after you used the first coupon. So then I'd use all the first sheet, the bus ticket from getting into town to use teh coupon and the second sheet of coupons, hoping I wouldn't get another sheet of coupons. Then I got another sheet...

Then I couldn't eat any more subway :indiff:

I'm a stingy person, so naturally I use coupons. But only if I find one for an item I would normally be purchasing anyway. I don't let coupons greatly affect my purchasing habits - which is what they're intended to do. I also don't waste much time or any money trying to obtain coupons.

Do you buy those coupon books and try to make your money back from savings from the coupons?
Never. Those things are almost always useless to me, and not worth $10-20 they cost.
Do you try to use every single coupon that you are given (on the back of receipts, in the mail, etc.)?
Not at all - most are irrelevant to what I already buy, and I'm not buying something I don't need just because I have a coupon.
Do you go out of your way to look specifically for coupons for items you’d normally buy?
I wouldn't say I go out of my way, but I doo keep an eye out for coupons on products I use regularly.
Do you normally not use coupons but if you’re given something eye catching you use it?
I'd have to say 'yes' to this one, but again, only if I need the product.
Do you go out of your way not to use coupons?
Not at all - but I don't spend $30 worth of my free time trying to save $10 on stuff, either.
