How many times do we catch something in true skilled form and no one sees? I thought it would be a good idea to make a thread where we can come and tell about our cracking catches, or a friend's that you seen if you like as well. Give us some details if you can like what you were doing, what you thought when it began to drop etc.
I'll start, the other night I was taking a shower, I was holding on to the soap when the slippery devil slipped out of my hand, I caught it about half way down to the ground. While the catch itself isn't all impressive, the fact I could actually grip the slippery soap and hold onto it after dropping it made me feel pro. I remember thinking, "Oh know, I aint doing a *insert my step-father's name here*!" Before he got something to grip the soap with you could always hear the loud crash when it hit the floor.

So what cracking catches have you made/seen recently?

I usually catch everything that I drop or knock over. It's always fun having bags of mixed vegetables, ice cream, and english muffins come flying out of my packed freezer when I open its door.

I used to be a really good goalie back before I grew out of cleats. I guess that's contributed to my skeells.

Ha, weird topic but co-incidentally yesterday I popped a champagne cork with my right hand and somehow caught it in my left without actually meaning too. It stung a bit!

Aw, I want to contribute to this thread, but as a defensive prodigy back in my baseball days, I feel like it wouldn't be fair for me to embarass you all. :p

I had something small in my hand and it fell, but it dropped only like 20cm before i caught it again with the same hand.

I was drunk playing PS2 on Saturday night and somehow while just trying to hold the controller still it slipped out of my hands, did a flip and landed back in my hands… it was pro. :sly:

I'm not sure of this counts because it wasn't intentional. I was walking to school a few years ago on a cold morning, cutting across the footy oval car park which I have done countless times. I stepped over this low fence and accidentally kicked up a small stone as I raised my back leg over. The stone gracefully flew into hand which was hanging down by my side. I could try that a million times and not be able to re-create the catch, which makes the incident disappointing because no-one was there to witness it thus meaning no-one believes me.

A more recent great catch happened at work about 2 months ago. I was cleaning the red wine bottles on the top shelf (which get very dusty after a while because they don't sell often). Standing on the ladder I reached for one of the bottles but clipped another (worth about $250AU) with my elbow. As the bottle was falling I instinctively went to grab it with my other hand, but I had forgotten I was holding the cleaning spray bottle in that hand. Somehow the bottle manged to stay put in my hand, much to my relief. The great thing about this catch is it was all captured on one of the security cameras. Once my shift had finished I went and asked my boss if he could show me the footage, which he was eager to view aswell after I told him the story. The catch even looked better on camera, I begged him to let me have the tape but obviously he wasn't allowed to. Though he did say he would keep it so he can show some of the other workers there just for laughs.

Catching all that must be hard 👍

You mean you shot the cork like a bullet into your other hand? That would have been a great catch.

And I'm Australian, we are natural cricketers, so go on, tell us about your cracking catches. 👍

LOL, I do that all the time at work, especially with keys. It's a relief when you do catch it, like nothing ever happened.

Sounds like it, I'm surprised you remember it :p It's amazing what you can sometimes do when drunk :dopey:

That first catch would have been pretty cool. 👍
That second catch I have a similar story only involving a plastic and cheaper Pepsi bottle at my work. Good work, cracking catch :dopey:

We had some pretty amazing catches at our frisbee game yesterday. I'm sure we'll be seeing more of those.

Cool, I find you make a lot of catches while on the run playing frisbee. Frisbee just isn't fun unless some girls are involved for me though. ;) Because they tease my goofy friend when he mucks up and it's funny. :sly:

I remember playing indoor cricket at high school once, and when the batter hit the ball it was coming in at a low trajectory and going to land about 4m in front of me, so I sprinted and dived (this is on a hard floor btw) and caught it lying down on my elbows and knees. Don't know how I did it, but I wasn't injured at all. Nothing like making a catch like that in front of 20 or more people :sly:

I dropped my guitar but caught it by a tuning peg before it landed on the hard floor below. It got very out of tune after that; before I had a strap too.

Other than that, I apparently have none.

I am able to catch wine gums from a great distance in one hand without looking... maybe I should go on tour.

I'm pretty good at accidental catches, being able to snatch something that's falling.

The one intentional catch that stands out was when I was over at a friend's house. One of them (he or his wife) was going to head out, and the other one tossed the keys across the room. I couldn't have done it better... when the keys were in mid-air about two feet away, my hand shot out and grabbed them out of the air. Neither one of them had any clue that I was going to do it, and it happened so fast his wife actually let out a little squeak of surprise.

The upside is that I made the catch... had I missed, I would have looked like a doofus.. hehe.

Must refrain! Must refrain!

I always put my foot out to break the fall. If my foot is a bit off the ground, the force exerted back on the object from the foot/shoe would be less than solid floor. I'm pretty sure I've saved a couple things from breaking by doing this. I just hope it hasn't become so second-nature that I put my foot out when I drop a brick or something.

I've made sliding/diving catches when I played baseball, it's an awesome feeling.

At school, I amost dropped my lunch after a bully had tried to knock me over, but I basically pulled a Matrix. I bent over backward so much that my head was a foot from my, well, foot. here's a diagram.

I'm assuming we read it like a manga.

No. My life goes in backwards. Yeah, I've been reading a lot of manga.

You nearly broke your back for a tray of poo?

  rofl.

All great catches guys.

@exigeracer- I know what you mean. It barely ever works but one time while at work, I had the gate keys in my hand, probably doing something tricky with it I guess, then I dropped them, and when it got closer to the floor I kicked it back up into the air and caught it in my hand. Boy did I feel skilled. :D

My best recent catch?

Had some crackers in my hand (those delicious flip-side things), lost grip on a bunch, but managed to get a hold of all of them before the ground stopped 'em. They are too good to let hit the floor...

The other day I dropped the soap bottle in the showeer, and as I caught it, the shampoo fell right into my open hand, then I fell over :banghead:

From,
Chris.

A couple of days ago I threw a handball through one these gymnastic ring thingie from like 7-8 metres, first try. EPIC.

Well, it was more like a bucket, and it was all I had eaten so far that day.

You eat poo. lol.

But if you didn't like it, why'd you attempt to catch it anyway? You shouldve let the bully have it.

I do this same thing! I also do it out of lazyness, If I don't feel like bending over and putting something down I will just drop it and let it hit my foot first. I do this a lot with video game controllers or my cell phone.

Nice, normally when I'm eating crackers I eat a lot at once. I'm so focused on eating what I have that any which drop are on the ground before I realise they're falling. :sly:

Because he only wanted to torment me, not steal my rat. Crap. Rat crap. I got back at him by accidentally slipping a few centipedes in his locker. you should have seen his face. And yes, our school does have a lot of shenanigans. 💡:scared:

*Insert any instance where I fumbled with an item after loosing grip of it many times* Those are always fun when you catch them. But when you don't after spending a good 10 seconds fumbling with it and dropping it. :p
