This is getting close as we head into the last 24hrs of this TT!! Well done @krsht3 great time!!

Here's a time via Fartbook from Roger Rios-Matias (MRC_ELCANGRI):

53.937!!

I hope to get another little go tomorrow before we finish!!

Had one last go, and in a video:

Over the 2 laps, the second was the faster on a 53.279, but i ran wide on the exit of Graham Hill, not sure if I gained or lost anything for that. So the first lap of 53.320 will count for me!

Get any final times in Fellas, we finish tonight wherever you are! ;)

I think it's a loss overall - my ghost overtakes me if I run wide there. Being able to just keep two wheels on the tarmac seems to give the best balance of entry and exit speed. Anyway, if it wasn't an invalidated lap I wouldn't object to you counting it!

Here's the results of another tight TT in the BMW M4 whateveritscalled at Brands Indy! :D

@HammyMansell 53.320

@krsht3 53.338

@Outspacer 53.410

@nosoks 53.736

@knukken 53.786

Roger Rios-Matias (MRC_ELCANGRI) 53.937

@SpaceBreed 54.249

@Dopplegagger 54.576

@General_Edead 54.879

Damn! Closer than the last TT at Magione!! Great effort everyone, all of us covered by 1.5 seconds, and the top 3, less than a tenth! ;) The next AC TT will start from next Monday, the 17th of September! ;)

Now it's time for a new PCARS 2 TT in a brand spanking new (or maybe older) Ferrari! I'm off with a lady friend fellas! :D

So close, yet so far... but always fun :D

I couldn't resist seeing what happens when the pressures are dropped to the ideal 34 psi - about 6 psi down from stock - got into the 52s...

Haha nice one mate!!! More grip, it's surprisingly slidy that car, I'd thought it would stick to the road more.....

The new Assetto Corsa TT is:

Out of topic, but a good time to ask it, if Hammy is ok with it.

@Outspacer I see you drive on PC and VR, especially in our AC TTs.

I am seriously considering that jump to PC and VR. Problem is it will cost more than 1500$ to get a decent PC and an oculus rift.

I personally LOVE VR, but I'm still a bit skeptical and afraid of making that investment.

1-I'm afraid that it could be maybe an expensive investment for a small pleasure!
It's like I'm afraid it's not gonna be worth it, or if like that shiny new feel of VR gonna wear fast....
Dunno how to describe it! Maybe it's the $, dunno! I'm just hesitant to make such an investment for just simracing VR fun/experience.
I know I will definitely also get some other games like PUBG or some other PC exclusives like Raceroom, Rfactor 2 or maybe some non-simracing games.
So it's gonna have lots of positives I know.

2-On the other hand, oddly enough, I'm afraid that this shift to PC might open hell gates to me! I mean the infinite number of things I can do!
I know I'll have to/would like to upgrade to a better wheel at some point, or to a better rig, or a motion sim maybe?! Who knows!
That world is fascinating to me but that PS4 world is kinda locking me up a bit and restricting me from going crazy! :lol:

What can you say about that?! I'd like to get some real feedback on that! Worth it or not? Recommended or not?! Did you go crazy already?! :cheers:

Ah, what can I say? Yes to all of that and more! I spent almost a year thinking about whether to get a PC or not, did I really want it, was it worth it, what components I would buy, etc. Mostly I was hesitant because I didn't think I'd get on with VR, so was thinking of triple screens - big downside is the space they would take up. Then I got a juicy bonus from work and decided to dive in, also getting a Rift "just to try it out". But yeah, I'm hooked on VR now and it's hard to go back to playing on a 42" TV that's really too far away.

I've got most of the sims but it's hard to find time for them when I spend so much time with AC - and all the mods, 82 tracks installed so far and more waiting to try - but a lot of time still simply working through golding the hotlap special events. I don't really have any time slot I can commit to online racing so I don't know much about that side of each sim, and anyway, hotlaps are relaxing, online racing isn't :)

It is expensive, no doubt. I spent way over $1500, more like double... i7-8700K, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz C14, 500GB 960 EVO, 1TB MX500, 1080Ti, Rift. At this point it has to be enough for ACC, after all ;) The future most likely holds next-gen VR and maybe a DD wheel - and probably a stronger rig! Motion is just so pricey that you start thinking about what real car you could buy with the money :lol: Hopefully what I've put into the PC will still run new titles OK in 3 or 4 years time, but with graphics options turned down of course. Pretty happy with my T300 + G29 pedals for now though :)

Worth it? In purely bang-for-buck terms, I'd have to be honest and say it isn't - although it is one heck of a lot better than PS4, you do get a lot for the money with PS4, and it's all easy to use. But that's just a technical measure which doesn't account for the stark difference that VR works fully with most of the main sim titles, the freedom of mods, hooking AC up to RSR timing, Content Manager, etc. Downsides are that all of this takes time to set up and maintain (thank you Win 10 for stealing a couple of evenings cleaning up your ****, haha).

As I mentioned before, AC's FFB feels more defined on PC. I don't know if that's just framerate or what, but it definitely helps with the twitchier cars.

I was already crazy, so I wouldn't know about that :crazy:

@Outspacer thanks for that awesome feedback!
So in short, if I got you well, it's a very nice and recommended upgrade, but not worth it technically speaking. We're paying for the fun and the experience here.
Ironically enough, most good experiences in life are expensive.
We pay sometimes for what something is "experience wise" worth and not "materialistically" worth.

For now I'm still thinking about it... I found a like-new oculus rift used for sale for 300$ (great price in here) so I put my PSVR up for sale, just to test the waters. For now, it seems no one is interested.
I know I can use the PSVR on PC but it's just not worth the hassle to end-up having a compromised experience...

Just to stick my opinion on VR in.

I use a PSVR, and I really have an absolute blast with it. However I think the current state of VR technology is only just about acceptable, and given that the Rift and Vive are only of a slightly higher resolution than the PSVR, and then that extra resolution basically covers the slightly wider field of view (110° versus the PSVR at 100°), so there won't be much, if any, visible resolution improvement. The Vive Pro is of a higher resolution, but it's still not at 4K at 120Hz which is where I see that VR needs to be to give us a truly immersive experience.

Now I could go with a "money no object rig", well max around £4000, for top notch VR rig. However given that VR is really still in it's infancy I don't believe that such a rig currently worth the outlay, and with that I'd rather stick with the PSVR for the time being, and possibly invest in a large 4K gaming TV instead.

Hopefully the next few years will bring significant leaps in the technology and allowing it to deliver the previously mentioned 4K at 120Hz, making such a purchase worthwhile.

This of course is just my opinion, and I fully understand that other people may put more value on VR as it's current state than I do.

@Slapped yeah man I kinda relate with what you're saying.

As much as I like VR and like to jump into PC simracing, for only that reason, I still have my worries.

I tried AC on a PC in VR like a year ago. I can't remember that I was blown away with it. It actually felt too grainy.

Some people swear that a high end PC can just put that Anti-Aliasing up to higher values and contribute in higher resolution and sharper image! But for that to happen maybe a 1080 if not 1080TI is needed! That's nearly a 2000$ PC.
I'm honestly not gonna buy that, at the moment at least.

Yet, on the other hand, PSVR is just not cutting it to be honest. Not talking about tech or even resolution etc...
It's just that the simracing PSVR experience is just very minimal.
Only 2 games are supported: Dirt rally and GTS.
Dirt rally is a single player rally driving.
GTS is also on a single player driving mode.
(tried driveclub in VR once and it was so bad so sold it).

I need to be able to race in PSVR, maybe AC or PC2 or even GTS. The hardware isn't capable enough to do that so we're left out with some demo-like experiences.
It's just that kind of experience where you taste that food and you like it but you just can't eat more of it. It's just a tasting, a demo.
If PSVR was able to give me real racing in VR, even on the slightest sims in my opinion (GTS), I would have not considered a PC. Unfortunately it doesn't. :ouch:

@Georgeagea

I know what you mean about the state of VR sim racing on the PS4. I feel the same, in fact I don't bother with GTS or DR in VR, but....

...if you really want to race in PSVR, can suspend your disbelief, and move from 4 wheels to 0 wheels, then I can totally and utterly recommend WipEout Omega Collection.

Yeah it's a futuristic arcade racer, but it's such an intense VR experience, especially at the faster levels. Also the control mechanics are brilliant, and when you get used to them will make you feel like the AG ship that you're piloting is an extension of you. You can also race online as well, although it can be empty at times.

It's about $30 at the moment, which is well worth the buy in, but there's a free demo available.

IMO It's one of those games that deserves a place in every PSVR owners collection, and really showcases what the PSVR can do. It also brings a big grin to my face whenever I play it, which is what it should be about really.

@Slapped, @Georgeagea - I haven't tried PSVR so I can't compare, but for sure the resolution of current VR is pretty low and takes a bit of getting used to. It doesn't bother me much now though, I see past the graininess fine, although I would pounce on something better (well, probably with some hesitation because it would likely need a new graphics card as well).

Including Rift I spent around £2500 and didn't feel I watched the budget on anything particularly - an extra £1500 wouldn't get a lot more at all, I think, not yet. The 1080Ti can be had for about £150 less already, and there's now a faster 970 EVO SSD... that is the pain of spending on a PC! So holding off buying for as long as possible is always the best idea with PCs.

I also don't know what the experience would be like with a lower spec PC, say a 1070, a 4-core CPU, normal speed RAM. (Obviously skipping the EVO SSD would only affect load times and save £150 or so, so that's an easy budget cut). With current VR it does help to be able to (mostly) max out on settings and not have to spend ages fiddling around with them to maintain the magic 90 FPS.

tl;dr - if you've got the money then it's worth it, if you haven't then wait and see :)

Hi fellas, just to say things are a bit more peaceful here now, so hopefully today or tomorrow, I'll give the TT a go and set a time.

Quiet here so far, make sure to give it a crack, and post your times before Friday night when this TT ends.

I've already got an idea for the next TT, should be fun!
