will gt4 have cool drag physics? in previous gt games taking of in a 400 metre sprint was straight foward maybe a bit of wheel spin but nuthin fancy and if you put on super soft slick tyres it would still spin as normal will this be diferent ??

How are we to know? GT4 has not been released yet, nor have there been any demo or prologues that have it in the game.

It would make sense that something has been done to make drag racining different, but I'm not holding my breath. Think about it, there is only one drag strip in GT4, so my guess is no.

there is only one drag track ANNOUNCED!Thats not to say that there is no more in the making.

that sux i dnt think they will be putting much effort into the drag racing wich disapoints me but surely it will the proper drag racing rules?

Don't foorget that if sears point is in the game, that part of the track is a drag strip, it would be cool if they acctually incorperated that since there would not really be too much more additional modeling.

Yeah, good point, Car Guy. Some GTPlanet veterans would probably say "yay, another 'Will GT4 have xxxxxxxx?' topic..." Thing here is, I hope drag racing isn't bad. For those who played the 0-400m, 0-1000, or maybe even the oval test in Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3 may have got a false start and get disqualified. I'm not big on drag racing, but it would be nice to have a quality-style drag racing mode for GT4. And if you're going to have American muscle cars, this should be a great oppurtunity to shoot down the track cutting 12s, 10s, or maybe lower.

I like the Pro Stock cars in the NHRA. Drivers like Jeg Coughlin and "The Professor" Warren Johnson are two good names in this field of competition. I'm not really the Funny Car guy, but surely a Pro Stock would be nice to have, even if you want to bring on the HKS Drag Cars like from GT2.

GT4 will suck even more without proper drag racing.

Suck even more?

This is Gran Turismo we're talking about isn't it? Drag racing would be nice but I don't think it's high on most GT enthusiasts list of priorities...

I'll be too busy mucking about on the Nordschleife to worry anyway ;)

Well the wheelspin is much more apparent even in GT4P when you just smash the accelerator, nothing like GT3... So with new physics... i'm pretty sure there will be some decent quality drag racing.

Disapointed in your own speculation? Interesteing.

I think it will be average or better. This isnt just a quick 0-400 meter(1000 is more a test of a cars speed). By the way nice header 💡 . Also if you are running 500-1000hp super softs will spin no different than normal tires in real life, just shorter.

I think it would be pretty cool to have limits on your drag racing. IE: HP, weight, all motor, etc. I think it would make things a bit more challenging. Of course, it would be great to have an all out drag circuit too. Just thinking out out loud.

Oh yeah, anything goes unlimited hp class. 👍

i dont see the point in discussing "drag physics." if PD did the job right, the tarmac physics should be used for drag racing, road racing and drifting. rally physics might be another issue. when you drag race, "physics" dont change at all. maybe road traction but thats about it. rules and game play however...

Well, i know if i have a '70 Chevelle that can turn out low 9's or better, i would really like to see and feel a wheel stand upon a good hard launch. I know that will never happen, but it would be so hot.
James-

I am hoping for wheelies from hard launches too.

And Z32 i agree, the physics should not be different in drag racing and standard circiut racing. If PD get the engine right it should be applicable to all aspects of the game as you say in real life 'physics' don't change depending on the type of race your in. (Unless you live in NFS Undergound city :dopey: )

Don't you need tyres made of an extremely soft compound for that, and low tyre pressure? These kind of tyres have never been in GT before, but who knows?

I don't think they'll include so called "drag tyres".
But yes, who knows?
Drag mode was never included in GT series. So it could happen ;)

Not necessarily. I've seen a couple of cars on the street running DOT street slicks and pulled a tire off the ground on launch. But, you are on the right track. Frag slicks are made of a very soft compound to maximize grip. However, they do not last very long. Also, yes, tire pressure does play an important role on slicks. The difference between a couple PSI can make a huge difference in your traction.

I know i was reaching w/ my comments, but in order to have a drag section, you should really take in all that comes w/ it. Although you can try and keep it simple. I know in the drag portion of GT, the custom differencial is going to be a key component for a great launch.

It would also be very nice to do a burnout beforehand if you are running slicks. I have faith that GT will make the drag part of the game fun. But, i could be very mistaken.

You won't be pulling the front on standard street tires. Whether they are drag radials or full drag slicks, you're still doing to need a dedicated tire for that intended use. GT has not had drag racing before, but they certainly had the proper tires for Rally. I am VERY confident some sort of drag specific tire will be available, whether it be a DOT legal radial, or a full on slick.

Tire pressure makes a difference in all tires, slicks or not. I would LOVE to see this be adjustable, but I think we'd be getting a bit too detailed.

I want there to be a classic drag strip with bleachers and 3d people around ya and all that, but I dont think there will be. Just stupid drag renditions of tracks.. :( Guess we'll just have to see. That is if they havent scrapped drag heh. Anyone notice that there was ZERO mention of Drifting in the Tokyo Game Show's 'resorts' list. Yet at E3 drifting was in the resorts list.. along with online *cries*s

On an episode of "American Muscle Car," there was a segment on the Dodge Viper. During this episode after showing some wonderful GT racing, there was talk about a certain Viper that was called "King Snake," I believe it was. I think it looked a lot like what you'd see a professional drag racing team race, but it was street-legal and put in some wicked ETs.

I don't know who had it or something, but it's kind of rare to see a Viper in drag racing. And I say it's rare in drag racing because the Viper (unlike some muscle cars) made a name for itself on the road courses). Of course, never count out American cars for doing only straights and ovals. But as far as drag racing goes, almost ANY car or truck can be used. Don't just assume that American cars are going to own the strip. Perhaps we can have rather unusual events including drag racing Lotus Elises. Maybe you want to have VW Beetles in action. Maybe you want to put the Toyota Supra to the test. Or (98Cobra, you might like this), you can have your own NMRA (National Mustang Racing Association, if I'm not mistaken)-style event in GT4. And as I said, I don't think GT4's drag physics will be crap. There's drag racing in Japan I've heard of. I don't know if PD would work off of Japanese drags, FIA Drags in Europe, or American drag racing. Whatever it is, I'll perhaps think it will work successfully.

But if I'm not mistaken, wasn't drag racing supposed to be implemented since GT2?
