Crashing in GT5. Different with a wheel?

I used to hate Forza on the 360 because whenever I hit the side I'd always spin and face the wrong way. You'd just touch the barrier with your nose and the back end would come around.

I liked GT5 (my first GT of the series) because it never did that. (Or not that I noticed) If you hit the side you'd just skim it and scratch a few panels but you'd carry on.

I have been using the G27 wheel for the first time today and it now seems that every time I hit the wall It's spinning me around just like Forza.

(I used to have a wheel on Forza but it crashed the same with or without it)

I just switched from DS3 to a wheel and feel that it's truly easier to get turned around with a wheel and harder to get back on the course. This is because of how the wheel spins out and loses traction while the controller basically stays centered.

On the other hand, the wheel helps you stay on and frankly nobody skilled at racing should be driving off the course into the wall anyways so it doesn't bother me too much. If it bothers you a lot, race with skid control and it will usually keep you pointed forward.

Yeah, I'm playing GT5 with my DFGT and it seems that my car loves to spin around backwards when colliding with walls. Now, some douche could just say, "Stop slamming into walls", but that's pretty useless advice since nobody deliberately bangs into walls (unless maybe they're trying for something like the Trophy for pieces falling off). It doesn't change anything, either. I simply stated a matter of truth - that, at least with the wheel, cars do tend to spin around when you run into a wall. I know my X2010 always turns around backwards when banging into a wall, without exception. When touching the grass they spin around 180 degrees, too.

Now, there's no point in somebody pointing out that this is to be expected. I wasn't complaining or suggesting that the cars shouldn't be spinning. I'm simply stating what happens, at least with the DFGT, in certain circumstances as is relevant to the topic post. TC talked about racing wheels and cars spinning and I supported this with personal observations. This is all.

Banging into walls and spinning does suck. The X2010 spins in the grass because it loses downforce with the fan and the wheels are on a slippery surface. Physics sucks!

I'm loving the G27 so far but the spinning out is really driving me mad. What ever gains I make I loose when trying to get back on the track. This mainly happens on the ring where there is hardly any space to pass and I clip other cars.

I shall persevere.

You don't always spin 180. Granted I do quite a bit but the same time its not everytime. I can occasionally correct it. You just have to stay calm and adjust in small increments with the wheel and throttle. And I use a Fanatec PWT with TCS and skidforce off..

*You wasn't referenced as YOU personally. It was a general comment.

the only thing driving me mad is using the g27 on endurance races bc the wheel shakes so damn violently from the force feedback and i have it set to 1... i wish i could turn it off for the endurance races bc i gotta take a break every 20 minutes

Can't you just unplug the power cord? I thought the rest of it works from the power off the USB.

I've not tried it myself yet.

The only shaking that annoys me is on the X1.

One thing to keep in mind is that certain cars and tunes are likely to be more stable when they encounter grass. I'd suggest starting out with those especially as you learn the wheel.

The Acura NSX is a very stable car and you can use Avid's tune posted in the racing forum. I think you'll find that even if you get off the grass with it, as long as you don't make any sudden movements you'll be able to keep it from spinning. It also helps that his setups aren't extreme on toe settings. A lot of tunes seem to have pretty extreme toe-in and that can really cause a wreck, literally.

Thanks, I will try that car and setup when I next fire up GT.
