Ha! Accidently bought 5 million credits instead of the power pack. Before you open the game on PS you are shown add ons on the right of the screen. The only thing shown was the credits and not the power pack, ergo I thought that WAS the power pack since I knew that the 5 mil in credits was a part of that. I opened the game and surprise! You owe another $30. I take responsibility for it but it would have been nice to differentiate the two offerings together, so they couldn't be confused. Anyone else get confused?

I have to say it is clearly separate here but I am sorry you got unlucky in having to spend the extra $30 😬

Yeah, that's in game. Before you open the game there is, to the right, add on offers. The only one displayed was the credits, not the power pack, which I think is kind of weird. When you open the game, its clear.

Before you open the game.

You mean here on the home screen / dashboard?

Clicking on that takes you to a purchase page that makes no mention of Power Pack, so you should be able to tell it’s not what you’re after.

Yeah, I know that. I didnt know that they were offering 5 mil AND the power pack separately. Since I knew that 5 mil in credits was a part of the power pack AND the power pack was not offered there as a separate thing, I thought they were one and the same. Its weird that they are not offering the PP at that point and doing that would have been optimal.

Yeah that's not how they should of had that set up.
The power pack should've been #1 on the main PS5 screen not the 5 million credit pack.
Guaranteed alot of people just accidentally bought the wrong one.:ouch:

Here plus other social media outlets, ive seen atleast 6 people that this happened too.
The PD dev's are getting an extra bonus for the holidays i guess.

Yeah, and I didn't get the pack, I budgeted $35 for it and blew it on the credits. I'll just have to wait. Probably not missing much anyway.

Have you contacted PS Support to ask for a refund?

PD neither sets the prices nor receives the income - and absolutely does not decide on which add-ons are listed where in the PlayStation UI.

If you must point fingers at someone else, SIE is where they should be pointed.

Given that it's not a one-click purchase though, and clicking on the 5m credit Add-On takes you here:

... rather than here ...

... and you need to not only click again but then confirm it again after that before any money goes anywhere, and what people are trying to buy is the "Power Pack"...

I can only really say "treat this as a learning experience on reading before you buy", because it could barely be any clearer what it is you're purchasing.

Nah. I spent some of them before checking out the new area.

Yes, I did see that the 5 mil credit add on was for 5 mil credits. The problem was that there was not an option to buy the PP there. Since I knew that the PP issued 5 mil credits and there was no other option, I reasoned that buying the credits would unlock the PP. Because why would their newest expansion NOT be featured there?

That's because the only option you have when in an individual add-on's store listing is to buy that add-on. You can't buy a different add-on there, you have to go to the game's add-ons overview; you can't, for example, buy the Wallace & Gromit Expansion for Powerwash Simulator from the listing for the Alice in Wonderland Expansion for Powerwash Simulator. You have to go to the Powerwash Simulator Add-Ons overview.

The GT7 Power Pack went live at the exact same time as the 5m credit MTX. Viewing the add-ons overview would have presented it to you. Viewing only the 5m credit MTX showed you only the 5m credit MTX - and the description and name reveals it's not the Power Pack. Again, learning experience. Read first, click three buttons (and enter a password, if that's set up) to buy later.

Additionally, PD's own release (and our article accompanying it) yesterday gave directions on how to get directly to the pack from within the game.

which begs the question - why? I mean seriously...a new 5m credit mtx has to go live now...today, 3 years into the game's lifespan, on the same day as a new highly-anticipated dlc goes live that just happens to be exactly the same price and also includes 5 M credits? I get it, buyer beware and all that, but still...that's some pretty sketchy BS if you ask me.

I was talking about there being no option for buying the PP at the games add on menu before entering the game. (See screen shot) But yeah, Im responsible. Just would have been nice (And logical) to offer the PP there along side the 5 mil credits offering. It would have avoided any confusion.

You are really not understanding the issue.

Why not? They're making a big promotional push on the game today because of all the new stuff; it makes sense to monetise it more.

You haven't shown the game's Add-Ons menu. Other people have, and it clearly shows all five MTXs and the Power Pack.

What you've shown is one highlighted Add-On when the game tile is selected in the PS5 Home. If you tap the down cursor (five times) you reach the game's Add-Ons menu.

Again, you can't buy different Add-Ons by viewing one single Add-On.

You are really not understanding the issue.
I am.

The issue is that you looked in the wrong place, clicked the wrong thing thinking it was the right thing, clicked it twice more, and paid for it.

I'm sure you had good reason to think it was the right thing, despite having an entirely different name to the right thing, but it changes nothing. You're out $29.99 as a result.

I never eluded to blaming PD...
But regardless there's no way PD isn't earning a % of those purchases from there own game

There's very definitely a way.

In essence, as a (sort of) wholly-owned SIE subsidiary studio, SIE gives PD a bunch of money to make the game, PD spends a bunch of money to make the game, and SIE markets it and makes money from the game. PD doesn't see direct income from sales of the game, the DLC, or the MTX, but the income informs the budget for the next game, and the cycle begins again.

It's actually a little more complicated than that (when isn't it?) - PD is also technically its own company, and has its own revenue streams from external partnerships as well as SIE - but you can't really draw a direct line between game/add-on sales and PD's balance sheet.

SIE sets the prices, SIE sets the apparently confusing and misleading PlayStation 5 Home layout, SIE takes the money.

I made the same mistake mate. Sony's poor and needs the money. If it weren't for all the free stuff they have given away I would be a little more upset.
