Dammit, I've been trying to hold off on getting the firmware because I only run Windows 7 machines, but with this avalanche of people asking for it, I'm getting extremely impatient (and I'm usually a very patient man). If someone would PM about it, I'd appreciate it, but I'll probably end up waiting another week for the official release assuming I don't have the time to figure out how to run in XP mode this weekend.

I didn't see any dimensions on the fanatec site regarding the CSR Elite pedal base, anyone who has it, would you mind letting me know the LxW please. I have mine coming Monday and would like to see if I need to make some modifications to my current homemade set-up, thanks!

After an hour, I gave up trying to update. I tried everything I could think of: running it normally, as Administrator, in XP mode, on my laptop, using different USB ports (2.0 and 3.0); I even turned on Aero once just for the hell of it. Something went wrong every time and it was usually something different. I guess I'll just go ahead and do what I said I would do...wait. I'd rather not keep wasting my time by screwing with it and possibly rendering the wheel inoperable.

Same here.

I had a few problems getting it to work my first couple of times. Let us know your specific issues and I bet we could help you through it.

Running in normal or Admin on my W7 Professional 64bit, the tool crashes when I select CSR-ERASE.pw2 in step 9.

Running in XP Mode, I get an error message trying to start the program: "The application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix the problem."

And, on my laptop, I can't get to the CSR-ERASE.pw2 in step 9 because it remains greyed-out even though I do have the USB driver installed.

I restarted each many times making sure to turn off my anti-virus as well as a few other programs each time.

I am also having problems with the update. After I do step one, the application appears to be going through the process. It shows a few steps with the last one saying device has been reset. Step 2 is highlighted but when i try to apply the erase file, nothing happens. At least it appears nothing happens. I let it sit for like 5 minutes to see if the application was applying the update but it appeared nothing happened. The wheel restarts fine, Forza plays like it did before I attempted anything. But the update was obviously not applied.

I would continue to try it with your laptop. Also, go ahead and install the USB driver included with the firmware. It is what I had to do to make it to step 2 even though i had previously installed the driver from the support page online.

Let me know if that doesn't work.

If the first and second erase file had been applied your wheel would not function. So something is going wrong somewhere. What OS is your computer running? Do you have the driver installed?

I did use the USB driver that came with the firmware on my laptop; I had the driver from the website on my PC, but it wasn't recognizing it, so I also used the one from the firmware folder on it. I'm just going to wait 'til next weekend to screw with it anymore...hopefully, the finished firmware upgrade will be available by then.

At least you didn't go too far and erase the original firmware. They should have the new fw out this week. You might email support and ask them if they can send it to you early as they'll probably have it done a couple days before it is released publicly.

I used Windows XP based on Fanatec's recommendation but the install is still somewhat flaky. The install app crashed once and had to reboot a couple times to jumpstart the process (process losing visibilty of the CSR) but in the end all seems well.
I did ask Fanatec if it was OK to forward because I wasn't sure it was fully ready for prime time. They just suggested caution because of the install issues. I wouldn't suggest to those not familar with Windows but if the directions are followed it "should" work for others as it did me.

Send me a PM with an email address and I can forward.

Note: It definetly quiets the fan and corrects the settings save bug but it also "seems" like the FF is a little stronger. But don't quote me on that one.

Thank you. PM Sent and if the FF is stronger that is fine by me :)

I just received my Fanatec CSR and CSR Elite pedals, such a good wheel and pedals. The one thing that I did not like out of the box was the hardness of the brake pedal.

I prefer mine softer so a way to do this is to adjust the throw of the pedal, since the brake does not have a spring to adjust like the clutch and gas. I adjusted mine 1 hole lower than default. This dramatically reduced the hardness, of course only if you prefer a softer pedal.

Tools required for adjustment are- 6mm Allen wrench and 10mm wrench/socket.

I thought i had installed the driver. but maybe i did not perform the update correctly? How do I install the driver

Firmware worked great the first time through :) No more noise and my settings saved.

EDIT: I am running Win 7 Ult. SP1 64 Bit, the only thing to note was that the program wouldn't run when I right clicked and selected Run As Administrator, double clicking to run the program worked fine.

Nevermind! Fixed the issue. I uninstalled all the drivers on the usb port I was using. Ran the application in Windows XP service pack 3 mode and administrator mode. The wheel installed drivers on its own and update was applied on the first attempt.

I noticed 2 different ps/2 connectors with the CSR Elite Pedals, one with 2 ps/2 ends and the other with 1 ps/2 end 1 telephone (not sure the proper term) end. Any idea what the difference is?

Also running Win 7 Ultimate SP 1 64-bit and had no issues with the firmware update. Installed the driver they provided with no problem. Smooth the whole way. (Now, if only getting my dead-out-of-the-box shifter replaced was going that smoothly.)

As reported just a few posts above me, I didn't try to run it as admin or in XP mode or anything. Just ran it straight up. (Always the best choice to try with anything the first time. No point in dicking with anything else if you don't have to.)

For anyone using the CSR wheel, when I drift or go off road (pretty much anything that will cause the car to vibrate) my wheel makes a rattling sound. It goes away on the straights and only when in those situations it will make that noise. It comes from behind the steering wheel and not inside the base where the motors are. Any help, good or bad will be appreciated, thanks.

Can't say I noticed any noise under the conditions you described. My CSR is very quiet - knock on wood!
Sheesh! I knew something wasn't right when it made that noise. It's almost as if something is loose inside the actual wheel (between the aluminum base and where the button wires/connectors are).

My worry is if it will worsen or cause further damage to other components or if it is just something loose and won't affect anything?

Maybe an email to Fanatec is in order, thanks Fuzzy.

I believe Fanatec are working through some firmware installation issues to allow people to use Win7 instead of having to use XP or XP mode through Win7. This has always been the case with Firmware updates and Fanatec wheels, but now that the CSR Wheel is MS backed/supported might have pushed the installation issue before public release. Could also be wild speculation on my part.

Every Xbox 360 Fanatec wheel has been licensed by MS not just the CSR. Even the speedster 3 on the original Xbox. Also you didn't need XP or XP mode, I was even able to update through Vista (long time ago) despite people saying you couldn't. I just think they couldn't follow the directions properly.
