Curious ground squirrels

That was pretty good!:)

It had me smiling most the way through. How were you able to get so close though, without them running off?

Great vid, I have only got that close to wildlife when I nearly ran over a fox on my paperround. Also you could nearly set a clock by the squeaking.

Wow it is amazing to get that close to squirells in the wild.

Thanks for your feedback :) !

@Prodigy122: I guess they just got used to humans because hundreds of them (e.g. tour buses, etc.) must have come to the parking lot every day and many of them probably also feed them, so I guess that's why the squirrels are not afraid of humans anymore :) ! I was especially surprised that my brother could even touch them as you can see !

But in my opinion the funniest part of the video is actually that the squirrels think that the withered blade of grass, which my brother is holding, is something delicious or eatable  !

They behave similarly where I work, too. Due in part to consistently seeing people come and go and feeding them in the process. Their homes are scattered in the trees, which line the buildings perimeter. A friendly and curious bunch they are. Nice vid.

By the way, it should be edible, not eatable.

That's nothing... I came to within millimetres of the one lying at the side of the road with a semi-detached head when I was cycling along... Could've been messy :D

When I went out to Sask/Alberta we shot those things with .22's, or if it was a special occassion we busted out the 30-0-6. They're pests that tear up fields, endanger cattle and horses, break machinery with their burrows and help spread desease.

This reminds me of last weekend. I watched a chipmunk dart out into the road in front of the SUV I was following. He came to a stop right in the middle of our lane and the SUV went right over the top of him. He looked around for a split second before I got there then finished his journey across the road.
