Custom B-Spec driver names

So, I've heard it is possible that with a save editor, I can change the B-Spec driver names to something else. Might be just me, but I don't like the pre-generated list of last names given to me. Some people might be lucky getting names like "J. Hendrix" or "K. Yamauchi", or even "D. Bowie", but I wanna name one of my drivers after my favorite fictional characters.

Now, I've never tried decrypting and encrypting my own save datas at all, and this is my first time trying this. All I do with my save data was by simply just getting free money, adding some cars, and etc...

Has anyone ever modified their save data to get custom names, and if so, does it end in disaster, or did you get your desired driver names?

Apparently, it has been done before. I had a look at a save game I downloaded from NGU back in 2013 and noticed it has some driver names that are obviously not original. It would seem the user hex-edited the names to whatever he wanted, and according to Razerman, it can be easily done with a hex editor. I imagine how you would do it is by decrypting your save, opening one of the files, then searching for whatever your current driver name is and changing it to the desired name, and then reencrypting your save, but I have not actually tested this.

Fortunately, Razerman informed me just a few hours ago that he has a new version of his GT5 save editor that will include the ability to edit B-spec driver names. Apparently, a lot of other people wanted this feature, myself included, so that's why it's being added. However, it's currently undergoing bug testing right now and has kinks that need to be worked out before it can be shared, but hopefully, it won't be long before it's ready.

He has informed me that the limit to how long they can be is 64 characters, but they will start overlapping the UI if they reach a certain length. Here are two examples I can provide of that:
Gran Turismo 5.webp

Gran Turismo 5_1.webp

He also says they cannot use letters ä and ö since it breaks something in-game, but I doubt many will be using that, thankfully. :P I am working with him to help get this new feature working properly.

That's the plan. It's as simple as opening your save in the editor, going into the b-spec tab, and changing the name to whatever you want and saving. Like I said though, it has some kinks that need to be worked out first because it was only recently added.

Welp, it's here now! :D I tested it just now, and it works just fine.

With this new update, you can edit the driver name to whatever you want as long as it's below 64 characters and doesn't contain the letters ä and ö. As an added bonus, the update also allows you tweak the other stuff associated with your b-spec driver.

Here's an example of what I did with it when I tried it:

And here's how it looks in-game:
Gran Turismo 5.webp

Gran Turismo 5_1.webp

Here's the download link for the latest version of the editor. Enjoy! :)
Credits to Razerman for making this possible! 👍

Something I should note is that this appears to be the max you can set each field to, ignoring the Driver Name field anyhow:
Max.webp

If you try to add a number higher than what I have in these fields here, the editor will give you this:
Error.webp

To which you just simply change it back to a valid value.
