Hey i've been thinking of getting myself a racing cockpit for gt5 but the prices are a little over of what i can afford at this time. So at this time i am thinking of building one myself so if you guys could give me tips on what materials to use or even give plans or a link to a plan(s).

I believe a cockpit would be helpfull since i am the founder of a GT5 drift team (gt5 drift association)

Buy a cheap metal stand, I figured I would save money by building one and I saved about 40 bucks or so but in retrospect I would rather just have bought a nice small foldable metal one, unless you can design or find plans and build a real sturdy one just buy one.

Though being a founder of an association, does that really mean you have to own a cockpit? why not just a wheel and stand. Though skills will prove otherwise.

Moved to the correct forum.

And stop advertising your own website. Thanks

I recommend building your own.. I think the least expensive route would be to go with either wood or mdf.. I'm in the middle of a build and I decided to go with aluminum extrusion/profile. I wanted my build to be uniform, modular, and possibly collapsible. When it comes to plans I recommend taking measurements from a real car and then making them more comfortable/relaxed. Two major things are going to dictate my build, max width, and the seat itself. I wanted to spend more on a 350mm steering wheel then a seat SO I bought used.. I purchased a GD7 STI passenger seat and the bracketry is proprietary so I need it before I can make my measurements.

I'd recommend Craigslist for local seats as eBay can get very expensive and I didn't find many singles. Good luck!

I really, REALLY suggest a self-built cockpit. The prices on the cockpit products are way too expensive in my opinion.

I have a cockpit (in progress) that I've made in total of 4 hours and cost me 20 dollars. Wood's pretty cheap in the Home Depot and I just improvised on the specs. The only thing I was aiming for is the information from chilicoke's cockpit.

The platform on the top and holding the reverted pedals are from an unused small wooden cabinet. My dad has some wood cutting instruments in the basement and that made the process much faster rather than having someone else cut the wood for me.

That's it. An afternoon and 20 bucks. Still work in progress since GT5 isn't out yet, still need to make a stand for the shifter (again, based on chilicoke's) and an actual floor. I'll probably make a thread about my cockpit when it's done. But yeah, that's why I recommend a self-built one.

Can't wait to see it finished, looks good so far. Look forward to the thread. I plan on building something similar as I've been recently turned off to working with metal due to inexperience, tools, etc.

send me your e mail and i will send you all step by step pics of my selfmade cockpit ,and you can improvise so you dont have to make it the same.

I am thinking of making myself a cockpit, friend of mine is very good joiner, some great tips I found here. Thanks. Will see what we could do.
Let you know,
