Custom iPhone Ringtones

Anyone know how to do them? I've just surfed into a site with an app called iRinger. Is it safe?

Just wanna get some of my mp3's as better ringtones on my phone.

Use Audacity, convert a file that's no longer than 40 seconds into an .m4a file, then rename the file with a .m4r extension. Load into iTunes and synch your phone. Safe and free way to do ring tones without giving Apple $2.

FYI us Brits can't do the usual Apple $0.99 service the US gets anyway, but yeah that's basically what to do. You can also to the same thing in iTunes by switching the import setting to 'Apple lossless', playing around with the start and end times of a song, right clicking and converting to AAC and then changing to .m4r. Though Audacity is probably a little more streamlined - just thought I'd throw it in there.

I've never had any problems with a program inventively named "iPhoneRingToneMaker"
