Better be quick then Sp33, that car's been around since the early 90's and I think Honda/Acura will lay it to rest someday soon, a sad day that will be for sure :(

That sad day may be next year. Its sells are dropping, and the car isn't what it used to be.

There's alot of cars coming that are now being able to put the "Ferrari Of Japan" to shame.

Plus, the HSC is supposedly a canned project. This is, according to Honda/Acura, probably the last year for the NSX.

Sales are dropping? From what? Zero to none? I heard that in one year they sold 9 worldwide. I can't remember which year. May have been the first year it went on sale, or it may have been recently, but anyway, 9 over the entire planet!!

It's a great car, but I think they ask way too much for it. Yes, it is on par with a Ferrari 360 in the real world, but its a mile behind on paper. It's got Ferrari pace but they can't charge Ferrari money for it. Who's going to pay $200,000+ for a Honda? When you get up to that sort of money it's all about prestige - something which the Honda has none of.

Great car: Yes
Great success: Far from it...

:)

Well, Senna would be proud that the supercar he helped design lasted as long as it did, 15 years so far (if memory serves) and still an icon, however outdated.

@ferrari_chris: sure it doesn't have the Ferrari prestige, but I wouldn't sell Honda THAT short. They have a strong legacy in motorsports and engine design, and while I agree they ask too much for the NSX ($90,000 odd in the US am I right?) it is a phenomenal car, capable of holding its own against most Ferraris and Lambos, which belies its on-paper performance as you say.

But yeah, sales are poor, I think they sold 5 last year worldwide (possibly excluding Japan, though I don't know). What will be its replacement if anything I wonder?

The 9 for one year has to be wrong.
The Acura dealer in Plano usually sells between 3-4 every year.
They've sold only 1 this year last time I checked in May.

I think it had great success. Honda is company 98% of the people thought couldn't beat a Ferrari. The NSX was made, put up against a F355 and bam.
And this was in the 90's.

In speed, a certain Ferrari may own it, but on the course, the NSX could hold its own against even the most extreme of cars, like the Lamborghini Murcielago.
Of course, that would be a Type-R or possibly a Type-S, both of which America doesn't get. :grumpy:

*Dreams of an old Type-S Zero*

Best one I ever saw was here in London, down in Chelsea (where lots of flash gits live if you're not local)
Parked next to each other by a square were two Lamborghini Diablos. The Plates? NOT 1 and BUT 2.
git.

66.

 Awesome.

Would love to see an SL55AMG this September with that on the numberplate. Top Gear had that plate as there cover ones when they tested Jezza's, looked v. nice. Plates must've already been sold come to think of it, bet it was mighty expensive.

I've always wanted this as a custome plate... "NUMBER1" or "VTECETR". Or have an old convertable mustang with a "TOPLESS" custome plate.

My source of most car information; Wheels magazine, had on its cover that it that the NSX's replacement was canned. ( which almost reduced me to tears.. im a huge fan) but next issue they said in fine print on the inside of one of the columns that Honda refuses to say that any replacement has been canned, and that there still 'saughting ideas'..

Fingers crossed, ive even managed to cross my toes, for the day the replacement to the car that holds legacy to everything it was made to be.

God bless the NSX...*waving flag*... *tear*

I also like the NSX to death.....it's an awsome car, I'd like to have one one day.....even one from 1990 with 150.000 km on it :):) The handling is awsome, the response is awsome.....and that sound.........and the price :(

Its faster than Ferrari 348,Testarossa and 360 on the track (with Gansan driving:) )I think it's the ultimate supercar for the ones that hate posers and so on......

Well, lucky for us they dont exactly retain thier value all that well. In Australia, during the 90's they priced at 206k for the base coupe ( i use the term 'base' loosely). After about 5 years they price at around 70k ^^... good for me..lol.. w00t. Ill be in one before the end of my school career, i only have to work around..*calculates*.. 13billion hours at mcdonalds. *sigh*.. maybe not.

geez... Thats a fair few miles.. @_@.

Is the NSX treated differently overthere? Mainly because there sales pitch was that it was the most practical supercar in its time.. ( and probably still is), so do people use it as an everyday cruiser?.. if so.. shame on them. Over here people refer to them as ferrari's. (which kinda pee's me off, coz honda isnt getting the credit it deserves) I remember on the bus a few years back one drove past and everyone leant out and goes look at that ferrari... -_-` <-- the look i gave them. They are treated amongst the highest of supercars.

If someone sees one, they're most likely to say, "Look at the cool car."
Most of them won't know what it is, and will probably think's a Ferrari.

Over here, not too many people have the slightest clue what the NSX is since most will only know of Ferrari or such.

Its just one of those cars here that some people either know or, or they don't. And those who don't sometimes show how much they really know about cars.
Its a bit sad really, as over here, its underrated by many people.

Incredibly narrow-minded.

Most of them just think of Ferraris or Porsches.
Hardly any of them think of the other supercar makers.

And trust me, the high schoolers= 👎

oh so very true. Im glad someone shares my views.. usually i get ridiculed for such a thing ( seeing the majority are narrow minded)

It truely is a wonderful car.
The Skyline may beat it, but the NSX is just too awesome.

I agree. 1 flaw seems to be the price for a car near 300Hp for just over $65K. :indiff:

yeah, the materials its made from though do compensate mildly for its price, with its all aluminium chassis, but its still pretty highly priced considering. As stated previousley, on paper the nsx doesnt look all that impressive, i have many dvd's of the nsx on fuji speedway vsing the murcielargo, porsche gt2, ferrari 360 etc.. and the nsx absolutely cains them throughout the twisty bits, and then the straight comes along..... it led for 4/5 laps.. then the lambo overtook it on the straight. How much does the lambo cost again?..hehehe. If only the NSx looked better on paper then people would be more obliged to fork out the cash

I think most wealthy people won't buy it b/c:

1. Its a Honda/Acura and the stuck-up may prefer not to be seen in one. :grumpy:
2. Many don't know about its accomplishments in automotive history. :grumpy:

IMO, those seem like 2 reasons the car isn't bought.

to shame for them.

Isnt acura a respected brand over there, similar to lexus?.. thats wat i have assumed thus far, because us Aussies dont have these luxo hondas..*sigh*. I thought that was the reason that honda started the Acura brand.

Honda over seems much more respected though then in america, its prized for its value and luxury, were the americans seem to either take it for granted, or honda has a crappier range of cars over there.

Yeah.

If you want a luxury Honda, you go to Acura. Of course, you may get a luxury model, but you won't be getting the performance mode, imo.

Like, you buy a RSX Type-S. Sure its got some luxury for a Honda, but the real performance model is the Integra Type-R.

Same with the NSX. I'm pretty sure the states only get NSXs and NSX-Ts which is a shame really.
The Type-R is really great.

Thread officially hijacked by McLaren and Sp33 :-)

Yep, it's hard to remember what the original topic was - but don't stop guys, this is an interesting conversation. I love to see conversation like this.

Take it easy on the Ferrari's though, we're having enough of a bad time in F1, we don't need it around every corner... ;)

lol, poor guys... Ferraris arent bad, its just that people who know very little, yet think they know lots tend to point at cars that look fast and say....*FERRARI zOMG!!*

we werent mocking ferrari's just the stupid people who associate with them...:)
