If they appear outwardly ok, how dangerous is it to attempt to use D batteries with a 2002 expiration date?

Is there any acid leaking through?

If they appear outwardly ok,

Though I haven't opened them yet, that answers your question to the best of my observation so far. That would be a qualified no. I see no leakage.

I think manufacturers usually use the expiration date as such: "Batteries only hold a good charge for so long, and it disipates over time. And we just want them to buy new batteries."

Go ahead and use them. They won't last near as long as when new, but they'll work for a while.

I guess that means that Duracell D Cell batteries I got dated 1996 shouldn't still be showing as "Full Power" on the charger? :dopey:
