What is so special about D1 cars? I have seen them mentioned a few times on this forum. What do they have to do with drifting? :indiff:

The D1 cars are the that are used in the professional drift series D1. 👍

No unfortunately there are no drift races in Gt4 👎

If you put it that way, you realise that those drift cars are a bit useless, cause they are pretty hard to drift, I think.

In Japan there is a REAL race series called D1GP, and theres 3 REAL drift cars in the game. Theyre ok, its cool that theyre in GT4 but i think most of us prefer other cars.

BTW is anyone using these cars for any grip racing? i havent tried, just wondering

^ He's referring to RL, there isn't a drift race in the game :P

I won the D1GP FC3S, and it's a lot of fun to drift. I spent a while on Infineon with it. I tried setting it up for goin fast, and I got some ok lap times, but I was far from gripping, hehehe.

ANYWAY, all of the "D1" cars in GT4 are real life, sponsored vehicles that participate in the D1 Grand Prix. D1 travels across the world (mostly Japan) and puts on drift competitions and events. There's one every year in the US, I'm pretty sure it's in Indianapolis, but I could be wrong.

Basically all of the D1 cars in GT4 are ALREADY set up for drifting. These cars are not meant for grip driving, they're D1 cars for christ's sake!

The Genki Silvia and Blitz ER34 are pretty well known D1 competitors at this point, but GT4 could have selected MUCH better cars from the list of D1 competitors.

Meh, can't complain, at least they are acknowledging the existance of drifting in this version of GT, and even promoting the D1GP.

D1 USA takes place in California, at Irwindale or for GTLIVE - California Speedway. "Setup" for drift doesn't mean too much, i.e; it's not like they are heavily prone to oversteer like many believe, they can grip just fine. Actual D1 cars are neutral at best and most have a slight tendancy to understeer.

with a lil tweaking the drift cars can become grip masters, i have my car evenly balanced for grip and then i have a straight drift setting. they are very usefull in drift battles

Even though Gran Turismo doesn't have a competition for drifting, doesn't stop anyone from doin it. The entire GT series has good potential to let you drift with required skills, driving and tuning. I don't think it's neccissary to create a whole drifting competition system. Hardcore drifters know it's NOT just about how long you can make your car go sideways, it's gotta do with countersteer, the clipping point you choose, the amount of smoke, your angle and speed, how well you push your opponent, etc etc. So if Yamauchi decides to add drifting competitions in his games, it better be awesome. Like what Hunter S. Thompson would say, "If anything's worth doing, it's worth doing right." And if you ask me, making a system for something like that is not going to be easy being attached to what GT already is now. He put in D1GP cars in there, he's lookin out for the drifters. That's good enough for me.

I agree on the rest of it, but I think (this quoted part) depends a little on the drifter, I think that you shouldn't really follow the opinions of somebody else about your drifting, meaning that it's more fun to be a bit original and. I like it if someone can pull a LOONNG drift:tup::D, and the clipping point on the other hand doesn't REALLY matter to me, so all these things DO come back in drifting but YOU can decide for your own what's more important and what's LESS important. If you can do it ALL right, it's just perfect, and remember you have different drifting styles for example: speed drifting, and drifting for the looks of it.
I also like to see some angle, but if someone can put A LOT of smoke in a drift with not much angle, I think it's kinda nice too.

It's just the basics+what YOU want yourself, and that combined creates a GOOD, ORIGINAL, drift technique:idea: On the other hand, you can't just drop a few things like angle or something, now THAT's not good.........so just combine it a little:)

G-T-4-Fan, I see what your saying. i think you maybe misunderstood me a little on that quote, i'll try and clear it up. I wasn't judging on how one should drift, I'm saying if there was a drifting competition in the game, it should follow the rules of D1 Grand Prix. And D1 judging is very complicated, you have to take alot of technique into account. But yea, i have no problem with how ppl drift, but if your in a pro competition, the judges have specefics to look for. It would be hard to program that in a game. catch my drift? :)

Go buy a stock FC and check the settings on it. Then get your BP/Falken FC and check the default settings on THAT.

The D1 cars come defaulted with settings that better ALLOW drifting. As awesome and amazing and sexy (ok, getting carried away...) as the FC is, it will NOT drift as well as the BP/Falken FC when both have the default settings on. Even if you tune the HP of the FC up to the same as the BP/FC, the settings will make a huge difference...

Hm... I smell a comparison video... 👍
