if you read the d1gp rules, the cars must be built for street use. this means no tube chassis anywhere, (only roll cages are acceptable), and a cat converter must be installed.

This is only a guess, but I would assume that by the looks of that viper, it seems like that car was built for American GT racing. I could be wrong.

Even if that is the case......why was it allowed to compete for a year or two?

That and you basically have evey D1 car in the game just minus the Vynl and decals-FD,FC,180SX,S13,S14,S15,GTO,ALTEZA,.....and so on

....Yeha the Viper is a Competion Coupe Version with is built for racing and has a tube body.............There are some other reasons but i dont remeber them.I still see it drifitng tho.jsut exbition runs

The Viper driven by Sam Hubinette was never in D1GP. You're thinking of Formula D, which the viper still competes in. For 2004 D1GP Round 1 in Irwindale CA, Sam drove a Supra.

that CC viper no longer competes as been stated before, now he is running a street version of the viper, and isnt as dominant as before. hell, he looks like a totaly different driver in that new viper..hes not as smooth..doesn't look as comfortable...

ya sam has a different viper and really doesnt look the greatest out there. and for those who dont llike rhys gto take a look at the formula d standings. hes raping this year. well so far =x sam placed 14th in his viper =[

yes...rhys is raping after one event...but anyways...his GTO is amazing..all of the enginerring that has gone into the car is crazy...they increased his steering angle by like...i dunno...a lot..and have you seen his brakes? they are crazy! they're like...shaped? i dunno how to put it....but they aren't just the regular rotor..its like....cut out...

no i HATE the look of the gto personally so i dont pay much attention to it at all.. i think alex pfieffer shouldve won but oh well. that gto has some nice power and rhys has definitely got skill tho.

ya, they do that. I'm not sure which he has, but they call it either cross-drilling or slotting (or you can do both).

I'll hazard a guess that his are slotted - the increased surface area this creates will promote better cooling and venting off gases originating from the pad. In addition, the stress concentrations that are created in them are not as large as those experienced by cross-drilled rotors. (cutting circular holes in materials under compression does funny things to how the forces are distributed throughout it)

no no no....not just that...his rotors are drilled...i know that for a fact...but...they are not disk shaped...

making me seem like a newb here tank....

ne ways back to topic there are only 3 actual d1gp cars in the game the stream z is owned by dajiro inada co founder of the d1gp there are several cars in the game that are look a likes beside the decal layout and aero kit every car is a d1 car if u have a imagination

I've never seen the rotors on Millens goat, but...
Are you talking about scalloped rotors? lemme see if I can find some pics..

YES! 👍
finnaly someone understands me....that look like that...not exactly, but thats the basic shape of em...

the yellow GTO didn't do that bad in the drift comps out here in cali... i think its kinda sad how people make fun of it... i saw it run at Forumla Drift... it was hitting some nice lines, plenty of tire smoke and getting close to the wall.... good enough to get in the top 5 i believe.... 👍

Keep in mind that millen's gto is sponsered by DODGE CORPORATION while he is going up against people like Calvin Wan in a discount tires s13!

What's the meaning with that shape?

what does that have to do with anything?

NoQuarter: yep, to reduce the unsprung weight..and i believe better cooling also..

Millens rotars are a cermaric thats kind of a brownish color with that sorta star shape, they arent drilled, but they are straight slotted with the slots parrell to the shape of the rotar, and his brake caliburs are anodized blue aluminum.

Pontiac.

Pontiac GTO.

But, yes, he is sponsered by a multi-billion dollar corporation, which helps a lot. They, most likely, have 3 spares for every crusial part on that car. But who cares, Rhys Millen is amazing and he deserves his sponsorship. 👍

agreed, i wonder why would people bash on him. its kind of tiring to see the same cars over and over. people just arnt open minded enough these days.

hehe, sorry MoNkEy_MaGiCx

i think the design of those rotors is more about reducing rotational mass than unsprung mass - although it certainly does do both. Cooling and gas venting are likely a concern as well, but probably a secondary consideration since the lightening operation will help alleviate that.

it takes roughly the same amount of energy for a vehicle to accelerate 1lb of rotating mass, as it will to accelerate 8lbs of a non-rotating mass.

RMR
The shape of the rotor was not what we were looking for when we build our new brake set up. Weight was the main factor. We tried to find the lightest rotor/caliper combo possible and made them work. Because drifting does not require heavy braking over long periods of time, huge, thick and heavy rotors are really over kill. Our car weights 2750lbs on a good day and these brakes work great! We also shaved over 75 lbs going to them from conventional big brake upgrades. Its easier then you think. Give us a call and we can look into getting a set up for your car if you want.

I got this from Drifting.com ask RMR/ Rhys Millen thread.

dont worry about it, i didnt exactly explain it so well

Millen has history of rally racing.. he's the son of Rod Millen, toyota driver for pikes peak.. he was also on the monster garage show as a builder for the pikes peak truck.

On one of the Option DVDs, they did an interview on Rhys and his car, and they showed how the car was built. The suspension was relocated at the strut tower points and the body was lightened and reinforced to become a drift machine. Powered by an LS1 V8 naturally aspirated.

Even the D1 Judges say that if he competed in Japan, he can easily make top 16 in the point standings.

On another note, a friend of mine who works for Option/D1 says that the USA outlet isn't doing very well in DVD sales, which means that D1 may pull out of America. So if you guys like D1GP, I encourage you guys to buy up some DVDs at any retail that carries the videos, or at www.jdmoption.com and help support D1GP USA. Besides, there's awesome footage on the DVDs, including the D1GP main events, night togue drifting with D1 drivers, and lots of very elaborate information about a few of the D1 cars including Taniguchi's HKS Genki Silvia. You can also catch Daijiro's Option Stream Z in action running the Silverstate Classics in Nevada(which the car was built for).
