Rather than make a thread about a certain aspect of what the retail version of GT4 will be like, I'd want to make a general interest thread wanting to highlighting something that many of us passionately and sentimentally have opinions about, and that's being able to have that person's daily driver in GT4. Of course, GT4 can't include every last car in the world, but when a person is able to consider taking a daily driver and being able to mod that car all the way out to make it stand out. That is, in performance tuning. We may have that "GT4 Master Car List" thread with The359, but if you drive a Dodge Neon or a Peugeot 206, you'll want to be able to drive that in Gran Turismo 4. Perhaps your daily driver is underrated and unfeatured in GT4. Perhaps you own a car that's in GT4, but have a version that is outside of the normal GT4 car list. For example in a magazine of "Sport Compact Car," one person had a special type of MKIV Supra in which only 17 were built in 1997. It had automatic transmission and colored up in royal sapphire pearl (or, RSP). GTPlanet, being able to have your daily driver or one of your race cars available in a GT game can be fun because it helps that you can translate having fun with your little baby in real life, then take that love digitally in GT4.

So with this general interest thread GTPlanet, what role do you think having your daily driver and/or weekend racer in real life, and be able to buy and modify it in real life? Reply now. And if your daily driver or future daily driver isn't in the game, then talk about what it means to enjoy your car in real life, then enjoy driving it digitally on your PS2. Do you think there is any importance or significance to having a daily driver being a playable car in Gran Turismo games? Go ahead and reply if you have something to contribute.

my first car, the Fiat Panda, will be in the game. with its stock 45 hp engine and under 800 kilo weight you can imagine i always wished for a "little" more power...
soon i will be able to tune my little box properly :)

I know one of my cars will make into the game so far, and I'm fine about this aspect. But, I don't think I can call it a "daily driver" since I never drive it.

I dunno Jon,

I think its a good idea but not many of us own cracking cars that you will find in GT, what I mean is that it would be good to be able to drive your own daily car in GT4 but there will be plenty of other quicker and more fun to drive cars in GT4 yours would end up gathering dust !!!

I know what you mean though as I bought a Saxo VTR and remember playing GT2 with the wide bodied VTS rally car - but soon got bored and went on to drive something a lot quicker.

It would be good though if you could modify your own daily driver but there would always be cars that would break it !!!

I can see the appeal of taking your standard Toyota whatever and then driving it to the extreme around Cote D'Azur or Citta Di Aria... yeah... I'd love that. Cause pretty much you are never gonna get to drive that car in those situations. Plus you can add some tuning parts and try it out against other cars. You could also get all your mates who have their cars ingame together and race them all on fantastic circuits, without risk of landing up on the roof in a hedge and dead.

I think there is also a great appeal of trying the unknown. People can perhaps try out certain mods they might like to add to their specific car 'in game' and get a feel for them. Alright the feel wouldn't be that good and the parts are not that exact but you could get a rough idea. Plus you can hop into a car you might want to buy and test it out against your current machine, again on fantastic tracks with very realistic physics.

At the end of the day GT4 will allow me to experience cars I'd almost certainly never get to see in real life let alone own. It also allows me to drive where I probably would never be able to drive. All of this without risk, in the safety and comfort of your own home. All for the cost of less than a tank of petrol. GT4 may not be real life but arguably for the money there is so much more fun in it.

GT4 gives us the freedom of choice, to try things we might not have tried and to experience a wide variety of cars we might never have liked. I know there are cars in GT3 I absolutely would hate in reality and never want to drive but after racing them in GT3 I'm impressed and respect those cars much more. In a world where time is so important and you want to spend it all having fun and if you love cars, GT4 is a fantastic thing. Even adding the cost of a DFP and PS2 into the purchase, that's what? £350 for the whole shebang? that's more than a good price for what you get.

John, have you played GT2? you could have posted this 5 years ago. Whatever the impact is it will be basically the same as GT2.

I wasn't on five years ago. GTPlanet wasn't around five years ago. Quit finding any excuse or moment to attack me.

All I've asked about was the daily driver impact on GT4, and so far, I've seen some good responses. Let's keep it up, people.

one of the best qualities of GT is that fact... that you can buy your daily driver and race it.

When i had my 88 RX7 Turbo, it was great to be able to buy it in the game and fire it around some tracks... bump up the horsepower, check out different styles of rims, etc. Same thing for GT2 and my last gen Prelude.

there's something appealing about it.

I just bought a 1999 Saturn SL2 on July 5 as my very first car. I've been working on that a lot, but i wouldn't mind seeing my car in GT4.

I hate to be a jerk, but a saturn in GT4 would be kinda dumb. Then again, so are those fruity little french cars that are in there.....Oh well.

It would be a treat if my 96 sentra was in there... but I already made a thread on that one... ;) It would be alot of fun to see how well it stacks up to the other FF's in its class, but I doubt it will be in the final game.

This is also another reason I feel model variations are important. I see a lot of people complaining about many types of any given car, but they are quite easy for the devs to add and really help finish the game off. For example if I had a 2 Litre whatever car and PD only put in the 1.2 model I'd be rather frustrated trying to drive it. Same if I had a 1.2 Litre car and they put in the 2.0 Litre uber turbo edition only... it would be frustrating.

I would much rather have a choice of 10 models of one car than 1 or 2 models from each car. Because the modeling takes up so much time it is also quite easy for them to do this and give us even more cars to drive.

My daily driver probably won't be in there, but I think the appeal is definitely there. in GT2 I tried to get as close as I could, and it was a blast to take the car out around a couple times - but it wasn't timed in my career progression to let me use the car in a significant number of races, and then as has been mentioned many times, wasn't fast enough to really be fun anyway.

In a random anecdote about this, there is sort of another use for the "daily driver" cars :) My uncle was looking to buy a new car about a year ago, probably a little roadster like the MR2 or S2000. We booted up GT3 and took a bunch of cars out to the track for awhile. Obviously the modelling isn't perfect, and the car won't be an exact duplicate of what it would be like in real life, but it gave him a feel for a variety of cars and what they looked like driving around.

or a marlin sportster

To be honest, I've actually found having my car in a video game to be rather disapointing. WHen you own the actual car, modify it, and race it in real life, you know what it can do. If a game fails to produce these realistic attributes (which they quite often do), I find myself irritated by it. If done properly, I think it would be very enjoyable to take your actual car around tracks you'll never be able to drive it on.

Well I have a Renault Sport 172, it was featured on GT Concept, but Im in America and I couldnt play that Game, so I hope its in the final version of GT4

What do you think, it will be in the game??????

Hey, i wasnt attacking but im sorry if u took it that way. Sorry :guilty:

I was just saying at least half here have played GT2.

This is imho what made the immediate success of the GT serie, starting with GT1: you could get an humble Honda Civic, drive it around imaginary tracks you've never been but were credible ( not like Sega Gt for the dreamcast or Ridge Racer ) , learn to handle it. Then when you got used to it you could add some simple mods: sports tires, change the ROM in the electronic system get a sport suspension and you could feel the difference .

Yes, one of the main fun things about GT is that you can drive your daily driver, but I think sometimes it gets too far and PD privilegiate the little 50 hp cars a little bit too much. Because another great aspect of GT is driving cars you can't afford in real life ( Mercs, Aston Martins, etc).

Bring the exotics 👍

See ya :sly:

Its just how real it is compared to the other cars in the game and how they drive and handle. Your daily driver will handle sooo much different to the faster and better handling cars that are/will be available.

I think that one of the major sucess reasons for the GT series is the fact that it allows someone you drive their everyday car and experience driving it in amazing places and seeing what tuning can be done......it is an amazing selling point to have such a diverse range of adverage cars.....

And to not turn this into an "I want" thread.........

I WANT THE...... 04 VAUXHALL CORSA 1.2 SXI IN THE GAME!!!! :D

I wana see what it looks like with loads of rims and what it is like to drive when it is tuned....... :)
