Okay, so GT5 has damage.

We know that.

And, PD has been touting it as incredibly realistic, even if the production cars have terrible visual damage but I've been wondering.....

What about the jumps? A car is generally incapable of taking very large jumps, but GT has some pretty large ones in it. How do we expect the cars to take these?

The worst has to be Seattle, especialy since you're usually using very-low-to-the-ground race cars....those cars' suspension would be DESTROYED (yes, I need that much emphasis) by that ridiculous hill section....

So.....what's PD gonna do?

Well, the very first damage footage we saw, involved such a thing...

You mean the subaru?

If so, yeah....and that was with a small, flat jump and in a car that was designed to take that.

Seattle, on the other hand, basically has you smashing into a wall should you be going fast enough, and the cars you'd be using probably could go a speed bump...

^ Yeah, that Subaru is a rally car, it can take much bigger jump than that. He was wondering about LMP cars and the likes.

If it is indeed that realistic, I guess we will have to slow down a lot to avoid the jumping.

The real question to ask- is how do real-life racers overcome such an obstacle?

.......Most race tracks don't have crazy elavation changes like that?

Seattle does but only when you go around it the crap way

Hey, what's wrong with reverse?

Even if you go through it foward, the jumps are still quite big, and the really sharp elavation changes mean that you're still screwed....

I thought seattle reverse was one of the worst layouts in the series. Track was quite nice forward but it just never came together for me reversed.

I love Seattle both ways. But if you want damage then there you have it, you are just going to have to slow down. If you don't like it then turn the feature off. So what's to worry? You will always have options. I'm more worried it's taking forever to release the game thats what I'm really worried about.

I dunno, just felt drumming up some conversation on an interesting topic.....

And, my whole racing style is based on gunning it as hard as I can while still staying on the track, so this is really bad for, since Seattle is one of my favorite tracks....

Hell, I'm gonna gun it in a race just to see how badly I can screw it up from the jump. :sly:

Its not just Seattle, we already have Eiger's jump...

Damage will actually completely change the character of many tracks depending on how detailed it is. Places with high kerbs and close barriers or bumpy street circuits will be all the more punishing if we get suspension and other detailed damage.

I remeber one interview with Kaz, Kaz mentioned that suspension can be bent as well tires can hit the arches or tire walls of the car.. So Yes I think the major jumps, you can actually do it.

If you watch videos of racers at the Nurburgring before they come up to the jump, most just slow down, where as most GT racers just full throttle through

OK, most sane people. Crazy drivers that used to drive those stupidly deadly cars don't count :sly:

If something should brake your car realistically, then the game should mimic that, so to answer your question, either slow down, or suffer damage, that's how it's IRL.
p.s. +1 on the old GP cars! Those people were truly amazing/nuts, depends on the perspective!;) Heaps of horsepower, skinny half-useless tires, no aerodynamics, no safety, no crumple zones, ridiculous speeds and 4 wheel drifting at those speeds...jeez...:D
It would be so cool to have a few of those cars in GT, just for comparison's sake.:p ;) :)

Another melodramatic "I'm so worried" thread...how many more of these are we going to get?!

Reality check here - IT'S A GAME! If PD have made all cars suffer mechanical damage, I'm sure that suspension damage caused by large jumps will be reflected. If not, I couldn't care less to be honest. Like I said, it's just a game. However they choose to serve it is fine by me.

+1

It's a game, you play by the games rules. If there's suspension damage I'll be more careful. It'll feel more realistic. If there's not I'll have more fun. Win/win either way.

Absolutely. At the end of the day there is fun to be had from driving realistically so as to not damage the suspension, and there is also fun to be had from throwing cars over huge jumps and catching big air. I know it might upset some people if it's not 100% realistic, but those same people will never be happy with the game anyway, regardless of what it delivers. Like I said, I'll take it however they serve it and have major fun with it.

PD will probably tame the track (Seattle, if it does appear in GT5) to accommodate the new physics/damage. Hopefully, there will be suspension damage as part of the mechanical damage to the cars. And if the jump at Eiger is any indication, PD still needs to improve on how the suspension of the cars react while in the air and how much more forceful the landing must be especially when it comes to the FFB in the steering wheel.

im hoping for realistic damage and nice and realistic visual damage to all cars (dents and scratches). And of course, performance. If a guy bangs up in the rear of another car then the radiator should be busted and his engine should burn down. Would be nice but maybe kill some fun :)

Whats PD gonna do?

They already did their part! Representing car models as accurately as possible, and then incorporating damage. If you want to 'leap of faith' around Seattle or Nordwand expect a DESTROYED. car.

I personally will be using the,... damnit what yoy call em, ah yeh... brakes!
