Dancing Games

I recently rather warmed to this style of gaming. These are the games I play:

Dancing Stage Fusion (PS2/ PAL)
Dance UK (PS2/PAL)
DDR Extreme 8th Remix (just ordered it)

And then there is the PC version called Stepmania, which I haven't tried yet but may well soon once I have a PS2 controller converter.

And of course I just started playing in the Arcades.

After testing Dance UK for a while and liking it more and more, I really got into the DDR community, which is a community a lot like GT3's community, several boards, special equipment, competitions, meets, training mode (licences) and missions, and many other comparable stuff, except that the participants are a bit younger and a bit more healthy. :lol:

Any other 'hot steppers' around here? :D
 
DDR became really popular in my group of friends for a while and then it settled down again. A friend of mine (who I speak of regularly) has a game center with XBoxes, computers, and a for-real DDR arcade machine. You pay to enter the facility and the games are all free, so people throw down $4 and play DDR for hours on end. Personally I like the soft mats for PS2 the best - probably because that's what I learned on. A friend of mine and I got fairly good, then he just ran off and became super great without me. There are a couple guys I know who can get "A" or even "AA" on the hardest songs in the game. Very impressive.
 
What about Para Para Paradise? :P

btw, there was a dancing game for PS2 with Britney Spears called Stepping Selection. I'm not sure if it was released outside of Japan though. I have the game with the mat... it sux0r :(
 
These games are alright for a while, I would like to see a newer version of Busta groove from the PS 1. That game was brilliant with fun characters, levels and superb tunes.

Cool. Yeah, i'm on soft mats right now myself - the one that came with Dance UK has 8 pads and isn't bad at all. But the DDR scene is best with Dancing Stage / Dance Dance Revolution - a few people in that group can A and AA even Max300 and that's awesome to watch. Freestyle is great fun too. I myself can pass most 6 footers now that I set my mind to, within at most 30 minutes, but 7 footers are still beyond me. But then I got DDR only last week, so I still have time to work my way up to 10 footers. :scared: :D

Here's to give you an indication of how fast some of these steps get:

Still, it is 100% perfect - that means timing of all steps is more accurate than 1/32th of a second. And if I got it right, he makes 555 steps in 90 seconds. :scared:

Here's some people who are slightly less lazy, doing similarly fast songs but on freestyle (i.e. trying not just to pass the dance but to make it look good too).

Dancing games are boring. I hate dancing. The only good interactive games like that are the Itoy, I love washing windows.
 
I think that DDR on XBox would have to be the best option. Being able to download music updates is great. I would also like to be able to use my own music and set my own patterns. The software should be able to do beat detection (surely that's how they make them anyway) and you could create your own patterns with music you've copied to the hard drive.

Then share them on the internet!

Apparently the Xbox does support Live matches with 4 players, which is quite cool, but I don't think you can share step patterns just yet, nor mix them over your own songs. You can however, download a couple of service packs, I think 2, with extra songs (5-6 each).

However, the latter is supported by StepMania, a PC programme that can emulate various dance games among which DDR. Not bad, as it's free.

Other than that, the PS2 isn't half bad, especially if you can handle import. The best current import is I think DDR Extreme 8th edition, which features no less than 111 songs including almost all the great 10 steppers (Max300, Legend of Max, Max. etc.).

I still have to try the PC version, apparantly it's quite good. Haven't got a converter for my dansmat yet. ;)
 
Converter for your dance mat, you say? That's really weird because I had that link in my clipboard before I read your post. Frightening almost.

But looking at that converter, it says it supports vibration function but doesn't mention presure sensitivity. Does anyone know of a DualShock / USB converter that does support presure sensitive input?

Yeah, that one is apparently better than the previous most popular one, the EMS. However, recently another one is getting good ratings, and apparently supports all buttons analogue as well as force feedback:
