Hi guys how many people would use this new feature?

https://www.gtplanet.net/gran-turismo-5s-data-logger-soon-available-to-consumers/

I'm not sure how gamers could/would utilize this. But I do see some great opportunities arising with it, something along the line of Seasonal's and the like. Log a professional lap, and see what the arm-chair racer could manage. Could you lap the Ring faster than Sabine (who sadly no longer drives the taxi)? Or how about a circuit around Monza faster than Barrichello? Or perhaps a lap with the Stig which could coincide with that weeks episode, where applicable of course.

Either way you slice it... a very neat tool 👍

It does sound interesting I'm just curious how many people would be interested in using it I know I would have a look

If they modelled the Portland International Raceway I would use it. But I doubt I would spend the money on it. I imagine it would be the equivalent of a GPS system plus the recording device that would plug into your cars computer. With the limited run for an electronic device it would probably retail somewhere above US$1,000.00 at first introduction.

The use of it at race tracks around the world will definately be worthwhile. Getting those other tracks in the game will still take time and money. Maybe this device will help with that ;)

Its all guess work but it can be as simple as a GPS capable smart phone and an app. Millions of folk already map hikes, bike trails, off road truck, bike, ATV trail with free apps that record the track and frequently allow you to take pictures that are geo referenced automatically.

I've used my iPhone to track a hike (ok walk in the park) and the GPS has limited accuracy. I have used a GPS while flying and it can be very accurate at times, while other times I wouldn't want to rely on it to save my life.

But they are sooo much better than the old LoRan system :D

Could anyone explain to me this data logger system? I've read a couple of Jordan's news posts and heard speak of it, but I haven't stumbled across anything actually describing it in a way I comprehend.

Most of us would never purchase something like this, but where I see the value and I think PD is thinking the same, is celebrity/special laps on real courses. It's like taking Shift's Autolog or F4 Rivals mode to a whole different level. They could run some really cool events with this. Imagine the next time a new super car sets a time at Nürburgring it had this with and then when its released in game we can try to beat that time. Heck, we already have a trophy for the GTR lap, a ghost to go with it would be awesome. I just hope they utilize it, not show it to us then never really do anything with it.

Edit: Cam, my understanding is it is a gps/data logger unit that will transfer the info to gran turismo. So if you run a real life lap on an existing course in the game it can create an accurate replay of that lap. The unit can capture your exact position on a track it seems like to within inches so you will see the exact line and breaking points of the driver. I'm sure there is a lot of data captured that can be analyzed on a computer too.

From what I gather, you install the system into your real car. Take your car to a track that is in GT5 like Fuji, or Suzuka, or Tsukuba, or the one closest to your home, and run a few laps. Then come home dump the data into your PS3 and fire up GT5. You could then race your actual car's run in ghost mode.

That's pretty cool, although I don't see a drive to Indy or Daytona in my future to try it out . The future workings of it sound cool though.

I can see how up-and-coming racers, or the Academy folk, could use this as well. It could be a great teaching device to point out poor braking/throttle and whatnot. Not to mention hitting apex's and the racing line in general. As you said, it seems to be able to track within the negliable realm of inches.

I'm still kind of blown away with this, hopefully more indepth info is in the pipeline.

HUH? lol...I understand but what is the point of this. I bet that most people who play GT5 are people whom cant afford cars worth taking to the track, let alone pay for track time, or would not want to abuse that "special" car that they do have.
