That surprised me to when I saw him drumming for Queens of the Stone Age. I'm really not sure when he started though.

RE 1) He's got something going with them, i think it's pretty informal though. Grohl is known to have worked with lots of people over the years other than just Nirvana and the Foos.

You probably know, but he did most of the percussion on Tenacious D's album. And S2R's absolutely right, he's cameo'd musically with many artists over the years...
