I seen it on Autoblog too, reminiscent on South East QLD at the moment. Does that mean that all the buildings in the centre are partially sub-merged? How far away is the Daytona 500 or however long it is?

Still a long ways away. The Daytona 500 isn't held til' February.

Well that's lucky then, plenty of time for the clean up and repairs.

That's the least of NASCAR's worries. The next NASCAR race there is the Subway Jalapeno 250 in July followed by a Grand-Am race & the Sprint-Cup Series.

Oh I didn't realise they went there more than once in a season.:scared:

Yeah, it rained like a mofo down here.

Pepsi 400, anyone? that's July 4th weekend.

They may have to move everything to Tally if it doesn't dry quick enough, but...it should be above water by july.

if it doesnt' keep raining.

Rain has a habit of wreaking havoc on bitumen, you should see the potholes on the roads after our recent bout of flooding. Perhaps it will be OK I don't know, but certainly they'll have some clean-up efforts to go through before they can race there.

That's true, but Daytona's also a bit better built than most roads. (though it still be bumpy at 180MPH.) Still, you're right. Could very well have pavement damage.

You'd need an air boat on the backstretch. It's not that deep there, and with a big V-Hull powerboat...well, you'd have an expensive "Crunch."

The turns are likely half out of the water

Now its called the Coke Zero 400. ;) Hopefully it will be ready by then. They will probably run the race at the end of year around after Thanksgiving. :) --- Randy

I really dont think they'll have the track repaved and sealed by july. It may take them until fall to have the track redone. It's looks likt the track is under a 100ft of water or more and with Fla. being a salty area theres now telling how much damage will be done.

^I doubt it too. Cross your fingers for a reschedule for Talladega.

When it drains, won't the water move to Lake Lloyd, as in, over the road course that'll be run on in about a month? Would I be right in saying that Grand Ams won't take bumps like NASCARs?

they'd probably take the bumps better, not going as fast, but we don't know how bad the pavement is, yet.

The whole track will have to be redone no question about that. The last time it was done it took almost the whole off season. they track was done a week or so before the 500 and they had cars on the track that week to help run the track and get the sealer in. So the track would be done three days before the 500.
