Oh my Lordie Bigordie! This one looks like it's RIGHT up GTP's alley!

For some reason the trailer isn't on Apple's site, which is strange because it played in the theatre when I saw Wanted.

Whaddaya all think?! Personally, any trailer with "Welcome to the Jungle" in it is an automatic must-see. This is a far cry from the days of Carradine and Stallone!

Also someone please tell ol' Anderton how to get the visuals for the YouTube videos to show in the post, instead of just a text link? (In other words, how can I make it so the video plays right here on GTP, without everyone having to go to YouTube itself to view it?)

Damn I sound like an old man.

You "are" an old man Anderton :-)

I would love for this to be good - Cars, chicks, guns, explosions - What's not to like, apart from the fact that anyone who butchers Welcome to the Jungle in a trailer deserves to be shot !§....

I'm not sure what to think... I've seen the origional a few times, and I love it. This one, yeah, I guess I'm willing to give it a shot.

So, Transporter 4, then, yes? Well, at least there might be an awesome Interstate '76-style game made off of it, so there's that.

Looks alright, I hope there aren't many scenes with Tyrone from F&F, I think he would bring the movie down instead of helping it any.

I don't have sound at work. Is Statham trying to do an American accent or is he his good old cockney self?

Looks good though.

This does look like a pretty good movie. Saw the preview of it when I went to see Wanted this weekend. Reminds me of the Twisted Metal games.

How was it butchered? As far as I can tell, that's the original intro to the authentic G 'n' R version...

And no, DQuan, no fake American accent from Statham.

Listen to the trailer again - It's cut up and shortened like you wouldn't believe it !...

My turn to sound like an old man. This looks like a complete remake of running man. Every single plot point was taken (i know this because the preview hit them all). Just change "running" to "racing" and you're done. Oh, and no Ahnold.

Well, I can see the similarities there, but aside from using prisoners as contestants and having them run / race until they win or die, the movies are pretty different I'd say (of course this is before I've even seen Death Race).

The Running Man wasn't so much a race as it was a chase, and there were no cool cars in there (don't even mention that stupid dune buggy that Dynamo drove for eight seconds before flipping it over).

The whole "framing the guy" thing is different in each movie as well; in The Running Man, it was the corrupt military / government establishment which framed Ben Richards because he chose to disobey a direct order to fire into a crowd of protesters, and Statham's character looks to have been set up by the warden herself in order to get him to drive for her prison (reason unknown, but I'm sure the movie will fill that blank in).

I would say that Death Race looks a bit closer to The Running Man short story by Stephen King (writing as Richard Bachman not trying to tell you what you already know, Danoff, but some may not know he wrote that story).

That was kind of the entire point of Running Man (other than the clever satire bits that Death Race will no doubt lack), and it looks to be the entire point of this movie as well.

That doesn't sound too different to me.

Other than the point of the "framing" I guess it isn't too different. What I'm trying to say is that I didn't feel like Death Race was a re-hashed version of The Running Man from watching the trailer at all. I'll be plonking down my $11 bucks to see it when it comes out in theaters this August, so I'll be able to tell you if I was right then!

Oh my god yes! Needs a cameo by Sylvester Stallone though. What happened to it being a race across America and getting points for killing innocent people!?

I mean, I miss Euthanasia day!!

Save your money, buy the original. Why attempt to make it believeable. It so dillutes the sheer audacity.

I would've pictured a remake done something more like "Natural Born Killers".

Any movie featuring "Welcome to the Jungle" is a movie for avoiding.

At least they didn't cast "Larry the Cable Guy" in it.

Death race reminds me of the game "Twisted Metal III".

I still have it for the PS1. Is badass

Pretty gorey film but i loved the action. Jason Statham is just meant to play these cool/rebellious roles doesn't he? xD.

Does anyone know the list of cars they used for the film, cause im quite interested to know the other cars besides the mustang and dodge ram.

I forgot to post in here that I watched this last friday and I agree it was actually a lot better than I expected. Very gory, very violent, and loaded with action. He sure packed on some muscle for this one. I would say this is one of his better movies for sure. 👍
Not sure of the car line up but I recognized a Porsche, and a couple Mustangs.
