I seriously doubt that's true - I think once the basic dimensions of the 'donor' car are in there it's probably not a lot of work to add in stripes, flare the guards a bit, have a fiddle with the physics.

I'm not fussed either way about them, but they're something a bit different.

Two good points made on this page that I agree with.

Sven:
Do we really need 30 different Lancers to chose from?

There is not enough of a difference between an r34 V-spec and V-Spec II to include them both. That's where the overkill comes in.

JohnBM01:
it doesn't matter if a 276 Japanese beast is tuned up to 450hp with all-wheel drive, or a midship engine... only as long as it is street legal.

The Japanese manufacturers have this lame ass 280 hp limit on their cars. What alot of companies such as Nismo do is remove the restrictions that lower the car's power to 280 hp, then be HONEST about the power it actually makes (real R34 GTRs make more like 320-330 hp stock), and then add all kinds of marginally useful parts to encourage people to raid Nismo's catalogue. The 400R is not actually much functionally different or faster than a regular R33 - Best Motoring showed us that. Japanese tuner cars give us the cars more the way they SHOULD have come from the factory. And besides, by Toyota saying a Supra makes 280 hp (when in the US the same motor -detuned- makes *don't feel like looking it up right now* ~ 320 hp), Polyphony Digital then has to create a Supra that actually does make 280 horses and the car is slower than it's real life counterpart.

ok, this is some educating stuff right here - i already knew that limit thing but i didn't know the tuner car relationship with it.

Yeah, you'd be surprised as to how many insightful and wonderful people are on GTPlanet. I know I mentioned the HP limit in Japan in another thread, but it just goes to show the cars are as powerful as they look. Now sure, their HPs are restricted to the almost flat-out HP numbers crazy American tuners are doing, but I still think that maybe you can take away that restrictor thing for racing. I mean, if you're making a car exclusive to racing, why not remove restrictions? Sure, it won't be street legal in Japan, but at least you have an already-powerful car (no matter what Japanese car haters daresay) that just needs a little tuning to rule the track.

And one quick question... does the Skyline come with a V6, an Inline-6, or what?

I have to say, some tuner cars are hot. Like the one I already posted elsewhere:

I don't mind having these cars in the game at all ... ;)

The R34 Skyline GTR comes with an RB26DET Inline-6 turbo engine..........

That car is hot indeed...... I am also looking forward to racing with a certain little white S2000 with CF wing (can anyone guess?)............

Not sure about your S2000 but the one I'm waiting for is the one by PowerHouse Amuse. That looks pretty bad. I just hope there are some touge or at least tarmac rally runs in GT4.
The HP limit isn't a legal one, that's what makes it lame. A more powerful car would still be street legal. It's a "gentleman's agreement" - I still don't know the story behind it, but I would guess it had something to do with fairness between the domestic (in Japan) brands and not allowing one company to run away from the others regarding power. Maybe it has something to do with safety too, I don't know. What you will notice is that according to manufacturer specs the top Japanese sports cars of the nineties list more torque than horsepower, which is where you can see the underrating of power. The agreement only goes to horsepower, not to torque, so they are free to list the realistic torque number while sticking 280 in the HP column regardless of actual power.
Last I heard, the R35 GT-R is going to be the first car to do away with that gentleman's agreement. I remember reading something about Toyota making a Supra replacement (GT4000 or something) that would be built in the US in order to sidestep that limit. But that was awhile ago and I haven't heard anymore since.

Yeah, that's a perfect combination of garage and car - bringing out the best of an already great model. Looks dope. Any info on if it will actually be included?
I saw it in Best Motoring first. You?

It's a nice car thats for sure but I think I prefer it in a single colour without the the cf hood.

as long as it dose not become a street racing game and pd just concentrate on PROBER racing then i dont realy care if there are tunercars in the game. i agrree we need less of the boring cars like 206s and pd should concetrate on the faster sporst cars and racing cars. please more real race cars from different ages needed please.

Screw those Japanese imports you want a prober racng cars:)

One of the cool things about that whip is that you can get a carbon fiber hood, hard top, and trunk lid. In that picture you posted, I agree, not hot.

I don respect the Japanese cars for the way they can make good cars that handel well thanks to clever electroics rather then good chassis design but i worry that a lot of people would take a tuned up skyline over a ferrari or porsche. yes a nissan skyline is a great car but its not as good as you think and is a bit ugly. Althought i do like them.

Yous decide.

But the difference in cost between a Nissan and a Ferrari has to be taken into account, any Ferrari new is more than the R34 GT-R. As for Japanese cars that have a balanced chassis you only have to look at the S2000, and then theres the NSX. Both have fantastic chassis and suspension components and handle well without the super technical gizmo's the Skylines, Laners and the Impreza's use.

the cost is a major factor and i agrree. but but there are many cars that cost a similer amont to Japanese cars and offer good performance. bang for buck you cant beat an evo 8

But when people say Japanese cars are the best because you can tune them loads is a bit dumb and peoples obession with street racing is my main gripe and how every one on this forum seams to want bodykits and nos and stuff like this. and dont understand prober racing and prober race cars anoys me a bit.

Easy with saying "Japanese," please...

So Powerhouse Amuse is that tuning group involved with the Honda S2000? Thanks again for the info. And let me tell you something about Gran Turismo 4. I don't think GT4 will lean too much on one end of an already multi-faceted racing game. Just because tuner cars are in GT4 doesn't mean it will be NFS:U. Just because there are seemingly a lot of street races doesn't mean it's going to be PGR2 or Apex. Just because there are mostly Japanese cars doesn't mean that it is a pro-Japanese game. To me, PD is trying to balance Gran Turismo so that no one gets a certain misconception about what is available in the game. You have to appreciate their efforts regardless. And as a devoted GT fan, I'm proud to support GT4 and what will be in it. Whatever surprises come around for GT4, we'll have to make like Utada Hikaru, and "wait and see."

Well put John.

I saw it in Speed magazine (Road & Track).....

They have a great picture of it in white, with a carbon fiber wing, and it just looks like a little grip/drift monster.... I can't wait to get my hands on it....

It's tuned for grip (the one I saw). But the Drift King liked it so much after driving it he demanded Amuse give him the car on the spot. He now owns one, but I doubt they gave him the keys to that particular car.

And ditto on John's comment.

Oh yeah: the s2000 is a fairly popular car to mod in Japan, it's just that Amuse has the best that I've seen. C-West has a nice one too.
