After reading through the threads ive been wondering about member thats i would see alot and when i dont see them for a while ssometimes i would think the worst. with over 90,000 members i would think some one around would of passed away. and if any site members did mabey we can have like a memorial?

How exactly do you intend to find out if an inactive member has passed?

I mean, unless a close friend/relative logs on as them and posts to inform the rest of us of the tragedy, I'd sooner assume that inactive members have left simply because they aren't interested in the forum any longer rather than to startup any speculation about them being dead.

If they were a well known and respected member, then definately. If it was a 2 post 3 day visitor nobody knew, it's not our place to do so IMO.

This raises the question of how we'd know if the worst had happened, though.

One time, I thought niky was either injured or killed in a storm or something like that, that was taking place in the Philippines.

He came back few weeks later though. :D

As well as Kent, and any other members that were directly involved with Hurricane Katrina...

But I do agree with what has been said above. You cannot tell if a member has deceased or not, as it could be any reason at all for them leaving.

I have seen these situations such as these on other forums, even some instances in which the site administrator passed away. Each community dealt with the ordeal in its own way. I'd prefer not to think about it and be thankful that is not something I have had to deal with in 5 years of running the site.

Best not to think like that mate. Just assume like Boundary Layer said that they have lost interest unless you know that they passed away and that they were an active member of GTP.
There are sooo many other reasons why someone might not come on apart from being dead.

But you must admit that being dead is quite a good reason for not logging onto GTP anymore, and quite frankly, its the only acceptable reason....

i've always thought about THE GAME, after This post, it gives me a shiver every time i see his last activity:nervous:

I agree with you Daan.
I don't want to start nagging about this any more than is necessary but most of the members know about my depression. Like I mentionned in the confession booth, I tried to commit suicide and if my father hadn't found me, I was dead and nobody on this forum would have know about my death.

Then again, I remember reading a post about a member who started posting again after 9 months of absence.

And he last posted in September.

it must've been someone else then, his last activity was September 2005 i think, and i thought that was December 2005, and i didn't even look at his last post:guilty:

I think the threat of a false death is real on this amazing world wide web. :ouch:

Other than that though, I'm with Jordan on this one.

And guys...
I still appreciate everything the people of this site did during that storm.

And since Machone decides to post something, yet again, useless, we'll put a tidy little christmas bow on this thread and close it up.
