That would be for DDR3. Older RAM will cost you more than that, which would be the case here. Plus I would question if the motherboard could even support that much, given the age of all that hardware.

This can't get much worse can it.

As far as I know, that CPU is on the AM2 socket. That means DDR2 memory, and a Phenom processor is possible, should you be able to find one cheap enough. I could chuck a few sticks of RAM your way if you want, hell, I'd just give them too you. How many DIMM slots has your board got?

I'm unsure. How many GB's are they? Thanks tlowr4! I'll try and find out for you.

Could I set someone who has a lot of available time on their hands a challenge? Could you find me the best RAM, HDD and Processor available for less than £150?

..Has anyone even thought to ask about the Motherboard? That'll tell everyone a lot more than what the CPU is. Look on the board for some serial numbers.

Tom did you try the program I suggested in my last post? That will tell you exactly what socket it has.

I did not. The computer is still at my grandmothers as the current HDD needs to be copied to an external HDD and then the internal one, wiped.

It's not an AM2. Did you even read the whole thread?

Its a socket 754. It should be able to support at least 4 Gb of RAM.

The best CPU possible is the Athlon 64 3700+

Regarding the 150 pound computer, it should be possible, however don't expect it to be something really fast and of high quality.
