Jordan, why don't you delete alot of the accounts with no posts?
It would free up server space, and make looking through the member directory much easier.

:stopsign: Some members come back, so they should have there account left.

Like my friend has an account which he hasn't used but as soon as I convince him how great GT Planet is he may want to.....

Also say someone gets an account, comes back a week later to use it then finds it's deleted, there not gonna get a good impressed of GTP are they :shakehead

If it's wasting server spance, how about emailing people with accounts :computer: that haven't been used for ages and asking them if they still want to be a member? :D

Im not saying like week old accounts, i mean acconts from '01 or like Jan 02.

Jordan and I have talked about this before, but I can't find the thread. What we came to was that those accounts may actually be in use for checking the forums, but those people don't necassarily add to the forums. There's nothing wrong with that. Also, a name in a database takes up so little space that it doesn't really matter anyway. I believe he said the server has 60+ GB of disk space, and the database is currently under 200mb. Big whoop.

I got'cho back, bro.

How much space does a user acount take up? 1Kb? Oh no!

Probably 5 - 10 kb. Assuming vBulletin doesn't use any kind of fancy compression, it would be 1b per character of information stored, and there is a bunch of information stored about each user, even if they don't set anything up in their preferances.

But you raise an interesting question: How much spades DOES a user account take up, and how much spaces does a single post take up? Interesting ... I suppose we could easily get the average post size (on the disk) by dividing the database size by the number of recorded posts. That'd be a pretty rough estimate, but informative non-the-less.

AH! I'M A DATA GEEK!

Whoa guys, i think i was just proved wrong. all these years, and i have been wrong all along.

The universe does not revolve around me! It revolves around MistaX.

Maybe we should rethink this whole idea, so we can spare MistaX, a few clicks more with the mouse, wouldn't want him to get injured with all those unnessecary clicks:D

now off to tend to my brusied ego:P:D

Or, we could take the number of users (6,805) and divide it by the size of the "user" table in the database (1.8 MB)...

I think I thought of the idea of getting rid of idle users!

I think sending them an e-mail would be a good way to start...because if you sent me an e-mail I would've come back ages ago!
