[edit]And the thread in the Test Forum was closed...[/edit]

I'm not here to argue, just curious...

Why not just leave it the way it is.. Eventually the crappy threads will be pushed back by people actually "testing" stuff... And those who get in the mood can still use the search button to find quotes or whatever they liked from those days of spamming the test forum.....

It's being deleted for two main reasons:

1. Even for it's intended use, it's not needed. The Preview Post feature allows you to preview all of your post's formatting.
2. It generates useless posts that waste server resources and degrade the overall moral and tone of the community.

I think that one thread we shoulod delete is the HMRCWG? thread. It has 100,000+ posts, which uses a lot of server space like TCB. Plus, it will deflate some post counts...

If it hadn't been for the test forum, I don't think I'd discovered the possibilities of lists and polls... I would never had had the balls to just DO one not knowing if I'd done it correctly or not...

Understandable - but isn't that 7, perhaps 12 threads ?....

[edit]And those threads of which thou speaks - ´have they not been closed for public posting ?[/edit]

Think of the n00bs! They need the test forum! :)

Yes, they need the test forum. But is that the only truth? I enjoyed the test forum several times to test out picture linking in posts, signatures and avatars.

The problem is not about if noobs uses the test forum to test whatever they want, the problem with this forum is unmoderated spam/slowchat threads which in general bring the entire community down (if it really does?? You tell me. As I see it you can'thave one standard here and another there on the same community, it tends to blend together).

I say keep the test forum as long as it's moderated by the same rules as any other forum on gtp. That said let the test forum be a test forum and nothing else, don't delete what's already been posted in there goddamit just keep track of it as any other forum on gtp from now on..

I so ****ing agree with you ! 👍

The Test forum is the only place on GTPlanet where you can discuss a subject without the thread getting locked, that freedom is slowly leaving.

You can discuss any subject in any forum without getting it locked - as long as you don't behave like a pillock. Abide by the AUP and ToS and you'll be just fine. Ramble off-topic (too far at least) and start swearing the place up and it'll be locked.

The Test Forum is really, currently, the Rumble Strip 2, only with no post count. As Jordan says, for the most part what you wish to test can be seen by Preview before you post. Signatures, avatars and custom status/titles are updated on ALL of you posts the second you make the changes, so there's no excuse to post to "test your avatar". Really, I can only see that it should be used to test out poll-making - and that's scarcely rocket science.

I agree with your points Famine, but I'm saying if we discussed the way we do in the Test Forum in the Rumble Strip the thread would have a reasonably climbing post count, which most people would consider, but in the test forum we can discuss without being labelled as spammers.

Well duh? I think that the freedom in TF has positive aspects as just what you said, you can discuss anything or blabber about shti, but in the end it seems as that you can't keep that standard to a sub-forum alone. You have to have the standard of posting the same in all the forums to prevent disease-like spreading bad/lazy beahivour.

I like the test forum in it's current familiar shape. But if it is so that we have to give it up in it's present shape to get gtp on a healthy level overall, then so be it. Go ahead.

YES!!

I moved tons and tons of my old, crappy threads to the test forum in hopes that it would lower my post count several months ago.

Check it out. I think I've got at least 50 threads in the test forum and the majority of them used to be in other forums.

Delete the bastard. It needs it.

Wow, you are really giving this new approach of crap-threads at gtp a new meaning.

Let's all be humble and admit our shortcomings.

I told my grandma to suck her balls the other day. I regret that.

It could be argued, Jordan, that some of the people on this site are more to blame than any individual forum. I'm not mentioning any names, but there are some people the forum would be better off without. This post is late, I know, but I'm just trying to prove a point. The Test Forum provided a ground for introductory posts, laid back off-topic chatter, and many other things. In general, I'm finding now that the forum has a certain air of tension about it. I find myself reading and rereading my posts to make sure I couldn't have hurt anyone, and find that my posting capabilities, although not restrained by any "legal" means, have been severely limited. Maybe it's purely psychological, and maybe I need to go see a shrink, but things have definitely changed around here.

Well, the changes must be working then. :) That's what I want to happen for everyone - to think through your posts before you press the submit button. The "tension" can be expected, things have changed a bit and you don't quite know what to expect, but just relax. If you're not posting anything out of line or without good reason (spamming), you don't have anything to worry about.

I guess I should mention again, then, that there are several forums I frequent that force you to use the preview button before you are able to post. It serves multiple purposes.

I don't like that feature. We should be trusted to manage our own posts. I like to not have to load another page in order to post. I'm sure 56K'ers would HATE this feature...

If that were possible, GTP would not need so many moderators.

If you change 56K'ers to spammers, then I totally agree.

dude I am on accelerated Dial up. but it is still slow so anyone running under 148, will be mad if they had to load a new page to post. I am still going pretty slow on the net. and 56kers are not spammers. I am on 56k and do not spam. I even used the edit button!

If you are going to violate the AUP, you won't care about loading another screen. What I'm talking about is previewing your posts. If we really want proper grammar and spelling, we should do it ourselves...

So you're willing to say that the Drifters are the equivalent of spammers then? Correct me if I'm wrong please.

Streetking is a specific person that keeps coming back and causing a ruckus (we've had to ban him like 5 or 6 times now), so no, that wasn't a stab at drifters.
