Deliberate last corner crashes

Hi all, enjoying the game, especially online races. Yeah you get some idiots out there (just like in real life) but I'm finding it great fun.

My only observation that I hope PD do something about is that drivers who have had a clean race know they can ram you off on the last corner without affecting their sportsmanship rating. Has happened a few times now to the point I know to watch for it and take evasive action, otherwise it can ruin a while race and sometimes there is nothing you can do about it.

Is this happening to others?

No, never.

I had 20 races yesterday and only had minor contact with another car once ('racing incident').

Happened to me during the last 2 races. Absolute bummer, and what's worst is that you see them go on their jolly way while you drop from 2nd to 16th. At the last corner of the last lap.
 
Specifically on the last turn of the last lap, happened to me only once at Lake Maggiore. I was 1st and the 2nd dove to the inside, sending me off track. He apologized afterwards. Most of those situations don't happen on the last corner of the last lap but when they happen it's pretty annoying.
 
It might be harsh but surely they could look at the closing speed and maybe even disqualify anyone who rear ends a car with a certain closing speed, deffo if they don't even apply the brakes. Should be something they can work out. Slight nudges, racing incidents etc are fine as we all make mistakes what what I see happening is so obvious that they use your car to slow down! Very annoying. Apart from that it's great fun.
 
I've had several incidences of other players treating the last lap as a free-for-all, but for the most part they have been punished for it either by SR drops or a penalty. I've had people cut corners, barge their car past mine, or just plain put me off the track because in their desperation to finish as high as possible they don't care a jot about the rules...

I wonder if the penalty system can be ramped up when cars are on their last lap? It might make actual racing harder in the last moments of the race, but would potentially ward off those who are intent on ruining others races for their own gain...

I doubt it'd make much difference for last lap/corner chancers to be honest. Stronger penalties on the last lap might, or prevent any penalties from getting worked off once the last lap has started

Best thing in my opinion to make penalties actually be a deterrent to contact and dirty driving is not allowing any penalties at all to be worked off during the race period, all penalties to be assessed post race to the drivers results and to also turn on high damage where contact can affect a cars in race performance and can only be repaired with a pit stop.

If you receive a 10 second penalty for dive bombing even in the first corner on the first lap and that full penalty is assessed post race then in most cases you will lose at least several race positions just from that one violation. Get a second 3 second penalty in the race for cutting the chicane then you have anyone penalty free that finishes within 12.99 seconds behind you overtakes your finishing position.

Suddenly makes driving within the rules contact free and driving at a level that not chancing cutting the tracks allowable borders on every turn and chicane seem like possibly a reasonable and preferable way to run in a race.

I'd go with that. Possibly harsh on people who are completely innocent but the more sporting drivers will inevitably end up with less penalties than the dirty ones.

You'd still be bound to get people hell bent on getting as big a penalty as possible though!
 
Nope, never happened to me either (knocking on wood). I played like all of Friday, and Saturday, at least 30 races, and they were all very civilized (SR A, then B cause I had to quit a race because something IRL came up, then A again).
Then again, and I think many underestimate that, I play on EU. I almost exclusively play online multiplayer games, and while it's not all sunny in Europe, I rarely experience the social issues so many vent about on boards (always NA server based).

This happened to me in a Gr.3 race at Alsace yesterday. I was in a Toyota battling a couple of Porsches for about 6 laps until the end of the race. I was leading going into the final chicane, but at the very last turn, the Porsche in 3rd divebombs the Porsche in 2nd and charges into me as I was holding the inside line into the corner, spinning me out into the right wall and throwing the other Porsche off.

I get a ten second penalty while everybody else gets away with no penalty. Fortunately, the divebomber hits an invisible wall (Alsace seems to have a problem with these...) after he hits me, and the other Porsche goes on to win the race. I finish down in 4th due to the penalty. Very annoying. 👎

don't mean to rain on the parade but if those 30 races were all "very civilized" you should be SR S for ages

Civilized as in I haven't experienced the behavior OP described, I thought that was clear. Of course there is some rubbing of paint in all races, and you get the odd orange SR from time to time, which is compltely fine. I haven't experienced deliberate crashing, everything else falls into racing in my book.

PD could institute a maximum penalty level of say 20 penalty points within a race where above that level you would then be DQ, ghosted for the rest of the race as to not affect other racers and take a huge hit to your SR rating.

That would limit the damage and that type of racer would be quickly demoted to the lowest SR rating level to race against others who also race with the bulldozer, rubbing is racing mentality!
 
Happened to me today on Nurburg GP. Only it was the chicane instead of the last turn.

This guy spun me on turn 1 lap 2. But, I let it go as a racing incident. I caught back up to him a few laps later. I followed him around to see where I could make my move. 2nd to last lap, I got a run off turn 4. So I took the inside of 5. I made sure I gave him tons of space. I didn't even track out. He pinned me to drivers left. Then he just shoved me off the track. Well, I knew this was intentional but I remained calm. I caught him again on the last lap, when he went off. I thought I was rid of him. I braked for the chicane. When I turned in, BAM! He never braked! Just T-boned me in the side. Of course, I get a 10 sec penalty.

I saved the replay and sure is heck, he never braked. I wish I knew how to get drivers names off the replay, I would upload the incident. He finished with a 19 sec penalty. But, that's crap that we can't get people like this banned for a day or 2.
 
It's happened to me. The last time was a driver on the final straight who tried to spin me by nudging my rear fender to the side. No penalty, even though he made contact two or three times with no other cars near us and me giving up track width to him.

I should add that I hadn't made contact with this driver (or any driver that I recall) during the race, my SR went up after, and we were racing for first place.

I think most people like that don't get racing. Watching the gp yesterday and seeing how many times Ricciardo late braked up the inside at senna s, all I could think was guaranteed in GT sport the other car would turn into you and think it was your fault!

If they leave a gap they shouldnt be surprised when someone uses it!

There is a difference between late braking and dive bombing.IRL Racing and in SIM/Vitrual racing.

I know, I was referring to late breaking as I don't do it often now because I know they will often turn in on me. Sorry I went off topic in my own thread!
 
Thinking about this last night, how hard would it be for PD to ghost and penalise a car if they can work out it's going to drive into someone based on specific rules. The simplest being if the car has made no effort to either brake or steer to try and avoid the car?

I'm also in favour of any more than 2 negative SR incidents then staying with you even if you then drive a clean race.
 
Yesterday in the FIA race at Suzuka the last corner dude behind me didnt brake and i get launched in the wall hard. After 8 laps steady 5th close at the top 4. I was a bit mad......

And the nicest is that the dude who did it finished with no panalty haha ;) finished 7th rest was far behind that was my luck.


But i was mad ;)

Yeah, definitely got that but I posted my view and you can even see my telemetry (see the rest of the comments, not just that person's particular comment that I linked). The bump he was complaining about is clearly me late breaking and going for a gap he left open.

I dont defend that guy,not even close.I just made a comment about his point of view.
BTW I saw the video.You pretty much pushed him off his line and gained a position.He came back to do what I've seen a lot of people do:"this guy is dirty,I am gonna put him out of the race".
I dont agree with that logic -his logic-.You either are clean or not.But there are a lot super fast,S SR rating people that actually do what that guy did in similar situations.And people are always "He deserved that".
This is a one part of the online community and their "racing etiquette" .
 
Didn't happen to me, but is useless suggesting harsher penalties as many times, if it isn't a huge crash, the driver who taps from behind isn't even penalized...

Yesterday I was the one who tapped from behind on the Clio race at Yamagiwa. It was unintentional but it send the other player off track.
I waited for him to take the position from me, but I didn't get any penalty, when I realize it would be fair to be penalized, despite no intention, has it "ruined" the other players' race.
If it happened in the last corner, probably I wouldn't be penalized also...
