Whew! I'm sure many of you were wondering what happened to the site today. As it turns out, hackers unleashed a crippling Denial of Service attack on my server's hosting company's routers and DNS servers, shutting down the entire network. Sub-nets in the datacenter were slowly brought back online throughout the day, and GTPlanet happened to be on one of the last. But, I'm not going to complain - I'm just glad everything is back to normal again. :) Sorry about that, everyone!

Man I have been trying to log on to GTP all day with no success. I know MazKid was too. I am just glad to see that the site is bak up and I can star posting!

Sorry to hear about it Jordan. I was wondering what happened. I have had several cliants that have had the same problems...

Good that everything came up again so quickly (some took DAYS)
 
I was wondering what happened.... I thought maybe some service was being done to the site or something. Oh well, glad to see it back up. :burnout:
 
Thats the reason i don't want to save up for my own servers. Because i would'nt have a clue what to do, and they would be down al the time. :(

One day maybe. When i'm richer. (yeah, like thats gonna happen)

That really stinks man. Especially for your hosting company. When someone comes under DOS attack, there is very little they can do. For the smaller web hosting firms, it sometims means instant death. If they are doing their best to keep you going, try and give them a little slack. Well, if they were doing a good job before.

The shakes are subsiding from todays withdraws... The entire North West territory is glad the sites back up...:)
 
Yea I was trying to get on forever, I usually blame my connection for problems like that, but I tryed everything and then just waited...I guess I was one of the last posters thismorning before the downtime...
 
I know how you fell Jordan m8, this happened to my place 2 months ago, hackers had attacked my servers company...place was down for a day or two...glad to see this place back up :)

Yeah, no kidding. When the idea that GTP might be gone crossed my mind I curled up into a ball and wept bitterly all night. :smilewink

Well, no, but I was concerned. :thumbsup: :thumbsup: for Jordan's hosting company.
 
Trust me, guys, if I ever do have to shut the site down, everyone will know FAR in advance. I'll even warn you of scheduled downtime if we need to move to another server or whatever, but never assume it's not coming back unless I say so. Like many have said already, my hosting company, RackShack.net did an outstanding job in handling the attack, and their support website stayed online throughout, allowing all of their customers to join in a live chat to stay up-to-date on the recovery efforts. I highly recommend them! :thumbsup: :)

BTW for those who don't know what I mean when I say that I referred to Klos's sig, he did have "I hate myself and want to die" as his sig before.

Wow, I guess it's a good thing I don't visit this site everyday(not that there's anything wrong with that!) If I did, I'd probably flip out and think you guys went under! AYE!!!!
