Is there a way to add shortcuts to the desktop to different partitions? Ideally, I would like to replace My Computer with Drive C, Q, and X. I would prefer to not have the shortcut arrow on the icons. I also do not want to use DesktopX or Object Desktop since I Don't want to waste the resources. Is there a way to do this?

XP?

I'm not sure if you can remove the shortcut arrows through windows itself, as I used Tweak-XP Pro to achieve that. And to actually create the shortcuts, its just like creating any other shortcut.

To remove the shortcut arrows in TXP go to Windows Tweaks > Windows Tweaks I > Desktop Tweaks and its in the lower right corner.

I remember in windows 98 you could delete some registry key to do it, but I don't remember what key it is, nor if it would work in XP. But yeah, almost any windows tweak program will offer that function.

Thanks guys. I didn't even see the option in Tweak UI to do that. :dunce:

All tweakUI does is mess with the registry so yes you'd be correct there was a way. "UI" is the important part of the name of that program :)

To create the shortcuts, open my computer and just drag the icons out to the desktop.

  1. Go to My Computer. Right click on the drive and select "Create Shortcut". Then to remove My Computer from the desktop, go to Start and right click on the My Computer icon on the right side of menu and deselect "Show on Desktop". You'll need to have the XP start menu enabled for this.
  2. Shortcut arrows can easily be removed. Go here.
