Determining Fanatec Model

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Just joined this forum in search of some answers.

A good friend of mine let me borrow his Fanatec wheel and pedal set about year ago or so. Since then, my 7 and 9 year old boys have become driving fanatics! Makes me smile inside and out seeing their love of cars!

Anyways, we've been using the setup on an Xbox 360 setup this past year mainly playing Forza games but they've saved their money up to buy an XB1 (thank you Black Friday sales!). So this means that the current Fanatec setup will not work with the XB1, I assume?

That said, I'm trying to figure out if I could upgrade the current setup to be compatible with the XB1 or not. The box that he has shows that it's a Fanatec CSR Elite, yet when I compare it to the photos that I've found online of "CSR Elites", it doesn't match. It looks a lot like the ClubSport Wheelbase that I se on teh Fanatec website.

I've attached a couple of photos or reference. If anyone can assist, I would be forever grateful. I'd like to (obviously) avoid the cost of purchasing a complete set if I can help it!

Oh, definitely a CSR Elite. The orange/red is a dead giveaway, as is the rim.

Someone else may correct me, but I'm pretty sure that the wheel is all but forgotten by Fanatec in regards to any updates/additions being tailored to it.
 
That is for sure the CSR elite wheel, which is the nicest Xbox 360 compatible wheel out there. It's basically the high end ClubSport V1 wheel without the quick release system. It uses the same steering wheel rim as the cheaper, non-Elite CSR (see below), except with a soft touch rubber coating and a decorative carbon fiber wheel plate cover. Otherwise the non-Elite CSR (confusing, eh?) shares the same internals as their old Porsche-branded wheels. They also made a Formula Rim for the CSR Elite. It's a discontinued wheel, but still very good. I haven't seen new firmware for the wheel in ages though.

You're also using the Fanatec ClubSport Pedals V2, which are still nice and until a few months ago were the best pedals Fanatec sold. Overall, you've got your hands on a very nice racing rig.

Thanks for the answers. I do like the rig. Works really well on the 360.

This is all so confusing! I cannot upgrade this unit to use with the XB1, correct?
 
The CSR Elite can't be upgraded to support Xbox One. It does work with select PS4 games like Project CARS and F1 2015. It's not an officially licensed PS4 wheel, so I wouldn't expect it to have widespread PS4 support.
 
Your best bet would be to sell or try trade the wheel for a Clubsport wheel base V1 and then get the new CSL wheel rim which has the xbox one compatibility

Edit: downside is CSW is not compatible one the 360. Currently there's nothing available that works on both

Thanks, everyone! I unfortunately can't sell it because it technically doesn't belong to me. I was hoping to just be able to upgrade it and when my friend is ready to take it back, just give it back to him upgraded.

So now I'm back to square one. I will have to purchase a whole new rig. I think I'm going to just go for a Logitech G920. Way more economical than the Fanatec piece.
 
The G920 is really just a warmed-over G27 at a higher price. Should be reliable, but it's not state of the art. The Thrustmaster TX is probably the better way to go. Like Fanatec, you can also upgrade to better parts as you guy (3 pedal set, shifter, higher quality wheel rims). I think there are some decent deals today too.
