SO i am pretty ok with this wheel i just bought yesterday but i think i am far from how good i am with the controller. Is there any in game settings i should enable or disable to break me into using one of these or its just a matter of getting used to it over time? I am pretty good in my daily driver 05 S2000 but sometimes i feel like I am not as good with the logitech one. Thanks

turn on power assist, turn force feedback down to 3

Yeah put force feedback lower between 3 and 5 and turn the power assisted steering on. I got mine back at the end of October and at first I was way off my controller times but I gradually improved and ended up beating them. I think you have to stop trying to replicate your controller laps, you have much more throttle, brake and steering control with the wheel so push the boundaries. For example some corners you can go round at say 3/4 throttle but on the controller it's hard to maintain this so you may dab the brakes on the controller then drive round at full power.

I honestly think you should leave it as it is by default for now, and just pratice and get used to it.

After all, you just got it yesterday.

well ill try and see how turning down the force feedback changes the way i drive. And is power assist already on by default or i need to enable it?

Why do you people recommend him to turn power assist on? You might aswell go back to the gamepad then.. you either use it properly and as realistic as possible, or don't..

See now someone says no lol. Well ill just see what each does and how it benefits or not. Thanks for input though fellas.

I say no because that's the whole point of owning a steering wheel, to make the experience as realistic as possible. You don't need that power assist option, you're only fooling yourself.. this game shines the most when you drive it as realistically as possible.

I think you should turn off all the assist ecxept for ABS 1.

Then buy and old slow but fun car, like lotus 71, or BMW 73 and go do the European A race on beginner. Do it with all assist off ecxept ABS 1, and do not change tyres or tune the car. Keep going until you can gold both races in one of those cars.

You will proberly have a lot of frustrations, but slowly you will begin to enjoy how it is driving for real and not with a pad :-)

I was looking at this thread and went to look at the settings for my wheel. I didn't realize that I could change the feed back and other settings, and I've had this wheel since 2006 or so.
I have settings for amateur, Professional, simulation. I had it set to amateur. I guess it comes that way.Feed back was 5 and I'm not sure if the power assist was on or not.
Anyway what should the settings be?

^ This is a very good suggestion. Don't just try and pick up where you left off it can get more frustrating than it needs to be. Learning the wheel is a progressive experience, it doesn't just click and all the sudden your setting blazing lap times. You need to to put the time in to experience the full range of situations from slide recovery to just keeping it straight on a long straight away... Not to mention the misleading 900 degree rotation but the hand animations only do 270... that took some time for me...

The tried and true method, regardless of wheel settings or car used: practice, practice practice.

Power assist off, I use force feedback on 7.
Took me an hour before I started to improve my lap times from the controller.

Biggest thing is : realise you are using a wheel, don't jerk the wheel back to neutral after a corner but ease it back, less dramatic weight shift for the car (controller suffers from that alot) = easier to control the car.

Also realise that you have pedals :p Ease in the brake just like with a real car, don't just slam it down you'll lock up the wheels.

Same with the accelerator, 'feathering it' (god that word sounds obnoxious) allows you to hug the curb on long corners or follow the racing line better.

I think it's much easier with a wheel (apart from counter steering which is easier with the controller, mostly because of the steering assist that you can turn off with a wheel).
you'll automatically drive more smoothly and more tempered, which automatically makes you more consistent and improves your lap times.

The force feedback is a good indicator of understeer, if the wheel is heavy to turn then you are trying to turn too fast.

Don't get hung up on trying to push it right away, just enjoy the driving and turning into a corner with a wheel and playing with the pedals.

Buying a wheel won't magically make you better from day one, just like giving some cod shmuck (not a stab at you:p) a mouse won't turn him into fatality instantly.
Doesn't mean it aint alot more accurate and alot more enjoyable.

I personally had to turn my forcefeedback down to 1 as people would complain it was too loud :(

I myself did a the sunday cup in the car that I happened to be driving at the time (400hp honda) I barely ended up winnning I was alllll over the place. Afterwords I started over in the licences again after that back to sunday cup and now much quicker :)

I have had it a week now and while maybe not as fast as using the controller I am in much more control. (until I push to far and it takes me forever to turn the car around lol 900degreess.....)

Youll get there dont stress about it

I'm a DFGT rookie too.

It's great but i'm still having some major issues:
* I can't do anything about oversteer. If it happens, it's a three double spin at least.
* Hairpins. I'm not able to turn my wheel quick enough it seems.

I'm struggling with the same things. The oversteer is a massive headache.

I got my force feedback set to 8, power assist off and love it. It took some adjusting like most here say, but if you take load transfer in account and learn to ease on the throttle, brakes and steering input, it becomes a blast to drive. Just keep in mind that at the limit, tires can only provide grip in one direction (eg, while braking, there is no grip free for turning etc).

Make sure you ease out of a turn, don't go full throttle if your steering wheel isn't straight yet. The less steering input is givin', the more grip is freed up for accelerating.

I did a couple of beginner courses i was missing because i didnt have a car for that event and it wasnt too bad with the wheel. Def gave me tons of practice. I think jumping the gun on a super fast car is what kills you as a rookie. I think i can eventually get there. I had power assist to off(on the wheel felt too weak and too easy to move) and the force feedback at 6.

As has been demonstarted here already, there are no 'official' settings for this wheel. It's all a case of personal choice.

I've tried a few combinations based on other peoples suggestions but I now use Power Assist OFF and Feedback at 7.

I recommend setting the Wheel options to "Simulation" mode, and set force to 5 or below, and power assist off.

In game, turn all assists off except traction control in the range 1 to 5 (depending on the car/setup and track) and ABS to 1.

You will be crap for a while, but experiment a bit, throw the wheel around with various cars/setups/tracks and you'll soon leran that each car/setup is different and requires alightly different play style.

simulation mode is not for the DFGT those settings are for a different wheel, it shows you in the pictures on screen.
I would leave the default settings on with the DFGT but maybe turn feedback down to 4 or even 3 to start with. I would strongly advise you don't turn on power assisted steering unless you have feedback set to 7 or above. Turning on power steering with low feedback means you don't get any feel for what the car is doing

Really? I'm sure setting simulation mode made a difference in feel to the default "arcade" mode, and I'm usnig a DFGT.

Indeed, it may be a placebo effect but I swear I've noticed that setting change reactions in both GT4 and GT5...

In fact, it seemed to affect GT4 with a controller as well.
