DFGT DIY shifter help!

Hello everyone!

I was just wondering if I could get some help before I tackle this next project! I have decided to relocate the shifter from beside the steering wheel to beside my seat. :sly:

So what I was going to do was extend the wires but I'm not too sure what type of wires to use to extend the existing ones, does anyone know Perhaps I could salvage them from an old desktop computer or would I have to buy certain ones? Thanks! 👍

You should be fine with any stranded wire of a similar size/gauge. old electronics will likely have similar size wire inside which you could use, just avoid it if its old and brittle.

Some electronic components are sensitive to the resistance of a circuit (wire), so using too large (or small) a wire will throw them out of spec (think automotive circuits). I'm guessing the circuit in the DFGT isn't as sensitive.

Hopefully the wires arent too small to work with, I repaired my G25 which has tiny wires almost too small to twist and manipulate.

How many wires is it?

Nice idea by the way.

There are only 3 wires that need to be extended. They are pretty small, I imagine they would be close to your g25.

Thanks for the help grog! I found out that telephone wires were close to the ones used in my dfgt so I extended the ones in my dfgt with them and it worked!

Yeah sure! Here are some pics! It doesn't look the best but will do for now until I get some new materials.

Fyi - the seat is out of a 95 mustang! 👍 :sly:

The shifter is just screwed to the 2x4 with some random wood screws that I found.

Whoa -- that's some sick hard-mounting system on your DFGT! :lol:

Good job on the shifter. I could probably do the same, but god knows I don't have the guts to chop up my wheel and mess with its innards. Takes some balls to do so.
