i just got a dfgt wheel the other day and out of the box its not exactly what i was expecting. does anyone have some gt5 setup advice for me?
i think right now i have it on simulation setting with the ffb around 3

also what are the differences between amatuer/pro and sim?
the wheel came with a quick start CD for windows, but i have a mac so its been of no use to me

I'm in the exact same boat, I've had it about a fortnight and still can't get used to it properly. What really annoyes me (and the reason I switch back to DS3) is when you spin out and are facing the barrier or wall its soooo awkward to reverse out and carry on.

Simulation doesn't affect the DFGT. You'll notice the DFGT isn't highlighted when you select the simulation setting.

Try FFB at 5-8 and keep practising 👍

No try FFB at one and then build it up from there. You have to learn to work with the FFB and then you will do great with it, took me a day to adjust to using it but I feel I get a bit quicker with the wheel every week.

thanks for the replies everyone. i started at ffb 1 friday and have worked my way up to 3 over the past few days. guess i'll keep working at it.

just pissed me off being able to silver the vettel challenge with a ds3 and then buying a wheel and having trouble driving a 100 horse car.

It does take weeks to get the hang of, i got to the point i was going to sell it cos i just could not get used to it, but without realising i have now beaten my times in every track, its so much smoother too, drifting is something i still cant do though.

Remap the shifter. I have the "-" as reverse, and the "+" as e-brake.

What is it using instead, should I select "Simulation"? "Realistic"?

No, those options don't apply to the DFGT.

Just whatever you do, don't give up on it.
Keep practicing. Eventually you'll get the hang of it.
Remap all the buttons to your preferences.

Make sure you've got a comfortable seating position. If you're hunched over the coffee table, it's going to start sucking pretty fast.

I use a bungee cord for more resistance on the brake pedal. Search the News section the setup is in there.

This.

Comfort is key

thats covered.

its not pretty but it getting the job done for a lot less money than a playseat.
this pic was my rough prototype i have since made the pedals on an incline and had to add more supports to make it more solid. but if you're handy i would recommend this route to anyone on a budget. build cost $20 and imagination

does need some paint though lol

Don't give up on the wheel yet. If you give it a little time you will come to ask yourself why you didn't buy one sooner. When you get used to the wheel, GT5 becomes, I believe anyway, a totally different experience.

It becomes a game/sim with much more depth and definitely gives more pleasure to the player as a whole. It also makes it somewhat more addictive, as the gameplay becomes to feel as if you are even more involved.

Well that's my thoughts - but continue at it with the wheel and it 'll just fall into place naturally with a little more practice...

just to update everybody i set mine FFB-8 today and after taking a ZR-1 RM and a few other cars of different varieties around some different tracks i love it. its feeling good and i feel like improvement of lap times won't be too far away.
thanks for all the helpful comments:tup:

Amateur Pro, and simulation does matter. Saving a car when it skids is more difficult on sim. Pro, and amateur it is alot easier to save spin outs.

Good call on putting reverse on shifter, might try it. I've gotten used to it on X since I moved it there.

I'm on sim, ffb- 10
