I have a DFP that has started to shift two or three gears up at a time. I use the flippers to change gears and this has not happened untill I have reached about 70% completion of GT4, (During Fuji 1.000 km) Couldn't find another reference of this in DFP threads, has anyone had the same happen to them, Is there a fix?

DFP is in high demand now and replacement under warranty or indeed buying a new wheel requires ordering. As you get more use out of the wheel more problems arise.

It maybe that logitec will have to replace a large proportion of their product under warranty as the problems seem to emerge gradually in a lot of cases. I have already replaced two wheels with the foot pedal problem.

I hope this thread does get published. The DFP thread is too long, and now that GT4 has been released much of that threads speculation has been answered. I hope to get feedback to the specific problem of gear change deterioration.

I've had the same kind of thing with my old DF (not pro) wheel. I use the L1/R1 to shift and after a while the buttons seems to get tired and shift 2-3 gears at a time. (I use the paddles for brake/accelerator as I don't use the pedals). It got so bad I had to use Automatic just to be able to play the game. Did this in both GT3 and GT4, so it is definately the wheel not the game. Sorry to hear that kind of thing is still happening with the DFP... 👎

DrTroy that is the question!

Because Logitec is now falling behind on supply it becomes a bit of an issue. If I do a warranty return I will lose the wheel for about three weeks while my point of sale orders a new one for me. I dont want that. I have started mucking around with licenses and missions in automatic, but wont attempt any of the main body of races as I have decided to drive manual.

Logitec have a two year warranty on this device and seem quite prepared to admit there are some problems with it, so replacement is the recommendation.

In my case I have returned two wheels with the footpedal problem and now this happens?
This time I have actually ordered a new wheel. and when it arrives I will return the one I have for a new one. Hopefully I will always have a working wheel after that, despite the ongoing problems.

Logitec blame relaease holdups for GT4 on polyphony digital, and reported to me that the devices have sat in storage for two years, and that the problem has been increased by that waiting time. This suggests that the problem may very well be set to emerge just after a standard two year period, just out of warranty?
Sony apparently were also unimpressed with polyphony with this issue as sony had to work with logitec and polyphony in development processes.

Make logitec pay replace under warranty, any problem with its hardware. :grumpy:

DrTroy
I too have had this extremely annoying problem! 2 or 3 upshifts each time I press it once. What to do?

At least I know now that we are not the only ones with this problem! It's driving us mad, can't do a full lap without it happening

How do we go about getting a replacement as we bought ours online and only have a paypal receipt for it?

Depends what country you are in. Contact logitec direct in the states. Sony don't deal with this well in australia, but point of sale should replace whether online or not. Most point of sale will support logitec warranty, the only problem seems to be wether they have stock or not.

Hmm my problem isn't the paddle shifters or upshifting, it's the stick shifter and downshifting. I started using the stick shifter with production cars in GT4 because I found it more fun (albeit more difficult). At around 15% or so, downshifting started to act up. When I downshift, it will jump 2-3 gears, or more often than not, straight down to first (often from 6th!). Haven't gotten around to the warranty claim yet, largely because I don't want to lose my wheel for a few weeks. Anyone else have the problem with the stick shifter?

Well I never use the stick, it's crazy to use that thing, as who can drive with one hand and shift as well ... but mine is still in 100% working order of not being used ever ... Have heard of other people who's stick shift becomes "lose" like yours, there are alot of people with this problem, and only way to solve is to send it in and get a replacement. No easy fix for this I think. Unlike the pedals, that some guys here fix themselves.

I use the stick shift. I'm currently at 99% and I haven't had one problem with it. You have problems driving one handed? I have no problem with it. Of course in rl I drive a 94 Vigor with no power steering, so I have forearms like Popeye.

i use the stick (i think it is making the left side side of body more muscular than right :scared: )

Sometimes ehrn i click it it seems like the gear does not change though, only happens rarely though.

I noticed this as well when downshifting but realised it was because I was downshifting just a fraction too fast. When you shift gears the gear number changes, then flashes. As soon as it's finished its flash it's in gear and you can change down or up again.

I don't understand why people wouldn't use the shift stick. That's what it was designed for, it works very well, I have absolutly no problems using it. It's not perfect, but it does a great job. The paddles are useless because rotating the wheel more than 90 degrees disables you from reaching them properly.

I've been having the same shift up/down two gears at a time problem with my Sony dualshock 2. Not using any steering wheel. Although never in GT3, It started doing it in GT4 at around 15% and I'm onbly just past 25%. It might be my third party extension cable but it never happened in GT3 with same set up and I've been playing that since it came out and still am.
Anyone else have this with a Sony controller?

Its so sad to add this to this post.
It is now about a month or so since I posted this and I have had my wheel replaced and also bought a backup wheel before they apparently have run out.

The first of these have stuffed up with the same gear up change problem in the right flipper. I will break the second one out of its box tonight and start another warranty return on the first one.

It seems that the only strategy that might work is to own two of these wheels and hope you get your replacement back before the next one takes a dive.

You need this wheel to experience any quality 'drive in the game IMHO.

What is the future for keeping the product working?

Replace the switches with some military grade ones.. It's a 15 minute job if you know how to wield a soldering iron - Only drawback is that you have to remove the cool GT logo on the front but I could care less - I don't spend my time looking at the wheel anyway..

Thanks for that, I may give it a go if the replacements are too long coming.
Have you done this?
You aren't in Australia I presume, can you give me any info specificaly about replacement switches?

I used to solder multicore ends for sound and lighting desks in my Rock and Roll so I think I can rouse up the equipment and skills still

It's very very easy actually... You have to rip off the GT logo in the middle of the wheel... That'll give you access to 4 large screws which will let you remove the wheel.. Don't worry, everything is "plugged" and not soldered so removing is very easy. On the back of the, now removed, wheel, there's 10 (IIRC) small screws and 4 smaller ones. Remove those and you've got access to the switches..

I knew I should've taken some pictures - ohh well - next time :D

And yes - I've done it, and no, I'm not in AU ;)

First of all, in many countries, if you contact Logitech directly, they will send you a new wheel without having to send in your old one. Their service is flawless.

Second, the pedal problem is something that is so easy to fix, I recommend you do that yourself. There are already descriptions on how to do this on most boards. It involves opening the pedal base, putting a little ball back in its holder, and pulling in a little more wire into the base to prevent it from happening again. I did this in March ... 2004.

Third, as mentioned, even the shifter issues can generally be fixed yourself fairly easy. I recommend Werner's threads and posts on this subject.

Enjoy your wheel!
A.
