i know push the triangle for reverse, but its not pressure sensitive on the wheel... and its hard to find when the wheel is upside down and sideways like it usually is when you need reverse. has anyone found a way to make this easier? can you set it as shift down from first gear?

please let me know!

I really miss the set-up available in Prologue where you could use the stick for reverse and handbrake...

So do I, handbraking with the stick was very useful.
A bit off topic (sorry), but I've just started to play GT4, and I'm unable to find where you can disable the computer assist. I've just managed to cut them off in arcade mode. Could somebody explain where this setting is ?

thanks in advance

If you mean TCS/ASM, they are under "Settings" at a pre-race screen. If you are talking about for the wheel - there isn't one.

I was speaking about ASM/TCS, so, thanks a lot mate ! :)

It's in your home under options. - scroll down to the "steering" settings (active steering on/off; amateur/pro/simulation; power assist; feedback strength)

No, you can't. It sucks but it's true. Don't ask me why. Sony came up with a pathetic answer.

It's in your home under options. - scroll down to the "driving force pro (1p) button config" and assign e-brake and reverse to "shift knob +" and "shift knob -"

Well, that about wraps this thread up :)

...assuming he runs an automatic transmission. Otherwise, it's going to be a very slow race.

That's what the paddles are for! Although, to be honest I haven't tried this setup so it could be that it reassigns both sets of gear shifting mechanisms to e-brake and reverse.

You can still use it. I just found this out after doing about 20% of the guy without it.

If you just go to the options menu and select P1 DFP Wheel, you can make

Reverse = Shift -
E-Brake = Shift +

This means you can only use the paddles now for shifting. It's really not a good menu because it makes you think that now you can't shift the car but you can do it just fine.

Hope this helps.

No, it doesn't help because you still can't shift down into reverse and it still doesn't give you throttle control. It just shreds your tyres.

at least you can find the freakin reverse and handbrake in a turn then

What about if you have a DS2 setup in your lap while you race. Then hit the triangle button on that controller. Have not tried it. Might be a dumb idea.

You just have to tap it rapidly. It gives you the same amount of throttle control as the non-pressure-sensitive triangle buttin on the dfp.

i am confused, what do you need reverse for in a racing game? :dunce:
just being a smart *** but not really. ;)

In the event that you hit the wall and you are directly FACING it, you can't accelerate forward and turn your way out of it easily. Going reverse will make this much easier.

Reverse also helps in recovering during/ after a spin-out. It helps a LOT.

Not to mention reverse races :)

Real drivers dont use reverse.

Unless theyre shopping.

or spinning out at 212 MPH at the end of the back straight on the nurburgring nordshleife.

Triangle will do.

I use DFP for races but have a DS2 also plugged in for the occasional photomode. Triangle/reverse should work during a race as the analogue light is lit. Good call my friend 👍

What country are you from that you spell "tires" with a "y"? That's been annoying me lately on these forums, because it really really looks like a typo.

The country that invented the English language.

They came up with lots of words like colour, and realise, and aluminium.

Well I suppose we can all guess what country you're from...

Now that we're nicely off topic I can take a guess at what country I'm trying to figure out. It must be the UK, because the 2nd guy says it's Europe, so my question is answered, thanks. I was only wondering if it was a typo.

Why hasnt PD allowed us to shift down into reverse? why the heck did do they still have it as the triangle button.. I dont understand their logic... on this and many other (errors) in gt4. It seems to me like they could have made the game perfect, but for some strange reason they chose to leave many flaws in.... (GT5?!?!?!)

I'm a little confused at that too but it kinda makes sense cuz in certain spins, you don't have time to sequentially gear down to reverse, it's just quicker to hit a button. But then again why didn't they just include the button AND a reverse gear to shift into...

I guess PD did not intend to let us make use of the reverse gear. Only using it for recovering from a crash, therefor a stupid button for the time you really have no other choice but to reverse......Suppose it wasn't his intention to let us recover while we crash. Perhaps he thought there was no room for stuntmen in this game. The lack of care for the reverse gear may also explain while we still didn''t get white reverse lights.
