That sounds like another topic altogether...nothing personal, but please post that in the Opinions section, if you get the chance, Red Eye.

What ever they can do to stimulate the economy.

Does anyone know anything about the resolution presented about giving African American's money because of the slavery issue from a century and a half ago? I saw something on the Dave CHeppel show last night that refered to this,.... is there any truth to it?

Uh, it's joke. The entire premise for the show is about joking.

I couldn't possible imagine blacks be given reparations for something that was legal at the time.

saw something about this on the news. bush must be short of cash so he creates a scare and you silly buggers go and buy a heap of stuff youre never going to have to use just so he can put a bit more into the war budget.

I sure as heck am not buying rolls of duct tape. It wouldn't protect someone's house from gamma radiation seeing as how Gamma Rays can penetrate Lead like pupik said. This is exactly like Y2k when everybody stocked up on food and nothing happened. I'm not saying it couldn't though.

Are you serious? Spare me.

DUH!

The plastic sheeting and duct tape aren't to protect you from gamma radiation. They are to protect you against 1) bio/chem weapons, and 2) wind-borne fallout. Against these two things, the idea is not as stupid as you're all making it out to be.

And Robin, I seem to remember a lot of Americans getting killed in the South Pacific to throw the Japanese off a whole bunch of little islands you may have heard of. Thanks to us rice isn't the main dish in Darwin today. I really don't like to fall back on saying things like that, but sometimes a little reminder is in order.

Everyone should already have Duct tape in their house. It's IMO one of the most useful things to have around. And in the remote event of an invasion I plan to tape lot's of Taliban butt cheeks together. ;)

And just to stay on pace, the duct tape and plastic has nothing to do with protection against a "Dirty Bomb." It's meant for any gas attacks they theorize might happen (cyanide gas if memory serves.)

This is great. I hope tons of stupid people actually do cover thier house in duct tape and plastic. Not only will they be the laughing stock of the nieghborhood, eventually they will sufficate.

That then frees up housing for the poor and stuff.

It might just work...

Actually, maz, i think it was to just seal off the cracks around windows and doors.

However it would be quite funny if something happens and i see a house completely covered in duct tape and plastic:D

I use duct tape to put the almost real cricket balls i use back together. :)

Yeah, a Jewish terrorist...living in South Florida. Right. The last time I destroyed anything, it was made of Legos.

Seriously, I don't think we're going to notice any gas/chemical warfare unless it just happens to have an odor or a color. Smarter warfare would dictate that it would probably be odorless and colorless (whether "dirty bomb" or not).

If it's colorless and odorless, how do we know it's there? Good point. Hopefully an expert could tell you.

Yes, I do have the supplies to cover my windows and cracks. No, I'm not sure how and when we're going to use them. But I think it's futile...in anycase, they may come in handy id a nuclear blast destroys all your windows, and you're at least a considerable distance from a bomb's "ground zero".

Do I really think there will be an attack. No, honestly. I've just been outside the past couple of days planting shrubs, bushes, and flowers...I don't think any of that crap is really going happen.

A Jewish terrorist? So I'm not alone?! Sweet!

How are we gonna do away with this fakakta county, bunch of smagegas.

Yea...that's Yiddish...

LMAO, uhh ok Pupik.

Back on topic...
If we ever sealed off our house, we would die. We...how do you say...fart a lot. On purpose. So we would die from a colorful, odorful, and flamable, gas.
;)

Actually, gamma particles will not always penetrate lead. At least not more than a few inches of it. It depends on the energy of the particle. They can be stopped by as little as a sheet of aluminum foil.
Science lesson for today:
Alpha particles are blocked by a few inches of air or a thin sheet of paper (these are the particles put out by your smoke detector if it uses Americium (which it probably does)).
Beta particles are blocked by several feet of air or a few millimeters of plastic.

Oh, and in response to all of this plastic crap:

Sealing your windows off with duct tape will not protect you. Your house is nowhere near airtight if the windows are sealed. Not even close. Think about a few things. First, your heater (if you don't live in Death Valley) has an exhaust pipe that feeds out of your house. Your house most likely sits on a foundation of some sort. It's not glued to it with a good seal, it just sits there. Bathroom fan exhausts, attic ventilation, insect holes (whether you see them or not), hell the place where your cable TV comes through the wall - these are all holes in your house. If you completely seal off your house to prevent chemical/biological weapons from leaking in, you will die anyway of asphyxiation (unless you live in a greenhouse with hundreds of plants, I guess) from the lack of oxygen (or the abundance of methane, in MazKid's case).

Agreed, AltF8. In fact it's not good for a house to be totally airtight.

HOWEVER, the idea of shrinkwrapping your doors and windows to keep out chemical/biological agents is not as ludicrous as the implication that the government was expecting it to keep out gamma radiation... that was my point.

Actually the most ludicrous thing in this thread is a certain conspiracy theory striaght from down under... something about Bush needing more money for weapons, hence, scaring us into spending on duct tape... as if duct tape revenues go to the military ot the government. I love conspiracy theories. They amuse me.

Somehow, I don't think even George Bush's excrement is worth trillions of dollars.

I think the word you're looking for is deficit.

Nope, I'm not falling for this American propoganda. Yes, I live about 8 miles away from the Mall of America, but will it get bombed? No. Will some airplane from MSP Int. Airport go crash into it? No. Why? Because nothing will happen. The US will back out of attacking, we're bluffing. The only reason why Blaire is supporting us is because we're bluffing. If we wanted to attack, we wouldn't have given Saddam "One more chance" or said "This is your last chance!" for five weeks. Nope, if some bomb comes by my home, I know that no amount of duct tape will ever save me, less I make a bunker 10 metres thick of it and 50 metres below ground.
